Snow Moon Skins

All 6 skins in the Snow Moon skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Snow Moon skin in League of Legends.

Snow Moon caught me off guard when it first dropped in late 2022. Riot pulled from Japanese winter folklore, moonlit shrine aesthetics, white-and-blue color palettes with these sharp crimson accents. Not gonna lie, the whole vibe feels like a quieter cousin of Blood Moon but with more restraint and cleaner execution. Been running Snow Moon skins in my ranked games since they released and the line holds up visually better than most seasonal drops. Six skins total, all Epic tier at 1350 RP, covering champions you'd actually want to play. Cold steel, paper talismans, and that frosty moonlight glow tying it all together. Clean line.

What Sets Snow Moon Apart From Other Skinlines

Riot has a habit of recycling Asian-inspired fantasy themes. Blood Moon, Spirit Blossom, Shan Hai Scrolls, Porcelain. Snow Moon could have easily blended into that pile. It doesnt though. The key difference is restraint. Where Blood Moon goes heavy on the demonic red and oni masks, Snow Moon pulls back into this winter shrine territory. Whites, pale blues, silver metallics. The red accents exist but they're deliberate, not overwhelming.

The shared VFX signature across the line is this crystalline ice-and-moonlight particle system. Every ability has these small frozen shards that scatter on impact. Subtle but consistent. You notice it most on auto attacks and basic abilities where the particles catch the Rift lighting in a specific way. Played maybe 40 games last week across different Snow Moon skins and the visual coherence between them is tight.

Splash arts deserve separate credit. Every single Snow Moon splash has this nighttime mountain shrine backdrop with snow falling. Moonlight breaking through clouds. The compositions feel like actual painted scrolls rather than the usual "champion posing dramatically" setup Riot defaults to. Could be wrong here but I think the art direction on this line is stronger than the skins themselves in some cases.

(Random tangent: the Snow Moon login screen music from patch 12.23 was one of the best ambient tracks Riot ever put out. Wish they still did login screens.)

Color palette works because it's narrow. Most skinlines try to give each champion a unique color identity within the theme. Snow Moon keeps everyone in the same white-blue-red range and lets silhouette differences do the work. Smart call. Means the skins look cohesive when multiple show up in the same comp, which matters more than people think in ranked lobbies where 2-3 teammates might own skins from the same line.

Best Snow Moon Skins Worth Your RP

Six skins to rank. All 1350 RP Epics. No Legendaries carrying the line, so each one has to earn it on VFX and model quality alone. Here's where I land after playing them all extensively through Diamond.

Snow Moon Kayn sits at the top for me. Both forms get the Snow Moon treatment and the transformation VFX when he goes Rhaast or Shadow Assassin with the winter aesthetic is genuinely cool. The scythe model in particular looks sharp. Pun intended. Been spamming this in ranked since around January 2023 and it still feels premium. The shadow form especially, where the blue-white particles on his Q and ult pop hard against darker map areas. Jungle clear looks clean with it.

Snow Moon Caitlyn comes in second. The rifle redesign fits the shrine guardian vibe perfectly. Her traps have this paper talisman look and her ult channel shows these moonlit rings expanding outward. For an ADC main who plays Caitlyn, this competes directly with her Legendary options on pure visual appeal despite being half the price. Real talk though, the headshot passive particles on this skin are some of the best subtle VFX work in her catalog.

Snow Moon Ahri is solid but not her best. Kinda feels like Spirit Blossom already claimed the "elegant Asian fantasy Ahri" niche so hard that Snow Moon reads as a diet version. The orb VFX are nice, the tails have good texture work, charm particles look great. But if you already own Spirit Blossom Ahri theres not enough daylight between them to justify another 1350 RP. Might pick it up on sale if you're an Ahri one-trick rotating skins.

Snow Moon Varus surprised me. His Q charge-up with the frost buildup looks genuinely threatening and the arrow trail VFX leave this ice crystal path. Not a champion I play often but I locked this in for maybe 15 games around February 2023 and the poke lane fantasy with those visuals felt right. His E ground effect with the snow particles is a nice touch that most skins skip on for Varus.

Morgana rounds out the strong picks. Her Q binding gets a paper talisman wrap effect and her ult chains turn into these silver-blue moon threads. The W pool is where it shines most though - this frozen shrine circle that looks way better than her base. For a support Morgana player climbing through ranked, this is a top 3 skin for her easily.

The Snow Moon Champion Roster

Six champions total. Morgana, Caitlyn, Ahri, Varus, Kayn, and Illaoi. The first batch dropped December 2022 with Kayn, Caitlyn, and Illaoi. Second wave came early 2023 bringing Ahri, Varus, and Morgana into the fold.

Not sure if it's just me but the champion selection feels intentional in a way most skinlines dont bother with. You got engage support in Morgana, ADC in Caitlyn and Varus, jungle in Kayn, mid coverage with Ahri, and a top laner in Illaoi. Thats a full comp right there. Five of six champions actually fit the winter shrine aesthetic naturally.

Illaoi is the odd one out thematically. Her tentacle-slamming playstyle clashes with the refined moonlit shrine vibe. The skin itself looks fine, the tentacles get a frost treatment, but it feels like Riot needed a bruiser to fill the roster rather than picking the best thematic match. Someone like Shen or Akali would have slotted in more naturally. Maybe even Yone.

Been thinking about who Riot should add if they ever expand the line. Shen is the obvious pick. Shrine guardian with blades, practically writes itself. Yone with the dual-blade moonlit aesthetic would sell like crazy. Diana is almost too on-the-nose but the moon connection is right there. Aphelios with his weapon system getting Snow Moon variants across all five guns could be incredible at Legendary tier. (Sidebar: an Aphelios Legendary where each weapon form gets unique Snow Moon VFX would probably be the best skin in the game and I will die on that hill.)

Tier and Pricing Breakdown

Every single Snow Moon skin is Epic tier at 1350 RP. No Legendaries. No Mythics. No budget 975 entries. Perfectly uniform pricing across all six. This is both the line's strength and its ceiling.

Strength because consistency. You know exactly what you're getting with any Snow Moon purchase. New model, new VFX, new recall animation, base voice lines. Standard Epic package done well. No bait-and-switch where one skin in the line clearly got more development resources than others.

Ceiling because without a Legendary anchor the line lacks a flagship. Think about Coven with Coven Evelynn Prestige, or Spirit Blossom with the Ahri Legendary. Those skins become the face of the entire line and drive interest in the cheaper options. Snow Moon doesnt have that. Fair warning, if Riot ever revisits this line, they need a Legendary to elevate it. Kayn was the obvious candidate but they went Epic.

At 1350 RP each, total collection cost is 8100 RP for all six. Around $55-60 depending on your RP purchase tier. Not bad for a complete skinline collection. Most of my Diamond ranked friends own 2-3 from the line rather than the full set, which tracks. Cherry-pick your mains and skip the rest. Solid approach.

Price-to-quality ratio is strong across the board. Maybe just my experience but I think Snow Moon Epics punch above their weight compared to other 1350 RP lines from the same era. The VFX consistency and splash art quality suggest the art team had a clear vision and stuck to it rather than rushing to hit a patch deadline like some 2022-2023 skinlines clearly did.

Snow Moon Skins FAQ

How many Snow Moon skins are there?

Six Snow Moon skins total as of right now. Morgana, Caitlyn, Ahri, Varus, Kayn, and Illaoi. The line dropped across two patches in late 2022 and early 2023. Not the biggest roster but decent coverage. Riot hasn't announced new additions yet but the theme has room to grow if they revisit it.

What is the best Snow Moon skin?

Snow Moon Kayn takes it for me. Both form transformations look clean with the winter aesthetic and the scythe model is sharp. Caitlyn is a close second, especially the trap and ult VFX. Honestly comes down to which champion you actually play. Kayn mains and Caitlyn one-tricks both eat well here.

Which champions have Snow Moon skins?

Kayn, Caitlyn, and Illaoi from the first batch. Ahri, Varus, and Morgana from the second wave. Six champions covering jungle, ADC, support, mid, and top. Basically a full ranked comp if your whole team coordinates, which never happens in solo queue but the option is there.

Does Snow Moon have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the Snow Moon line. All six skins are Epic tier at 1350 RP. No new voice lines or unique animations beyond the standard Epic package. Kayn arguably deserved the Legendary treatment given his dual-form gimmick but Riot kept everything uniform. Maybe next time if they expand the roster.

When did the Snow Moon skinline release?

First wave dropped December 2022 with Kayn, Caitlyn, and Illaoi. Second batch followed in early 2023 adding Ahri, Varus, and Morgana. The line came out during the winter patch cycle which makes sense given the whole frozen shrine aesthetic. Haven't seen new additions since that second wave.

Are Snow Moon skins worth buying?

For 1350 RP each, yes. The VFX quality and model work across the line is above average for Epic tier. Kayn and Caitlyn are easy recommends. Ahri is harder to justify if you own Spirit Blossom already. Pick the ones for champions you actually main and skip the rest. No need to collect all six unless you really love the theme.

Do Snow Moon skins have chromas?

Most Snow Moon skins got chroma sets on release. Standard Epic chroma packages with the usual suspects. If you grab a Snow Moon skin and want to tweak the color palette, check the chroma tab in the shop. Some of the darker variants actually look cleaner than the base white-blue in my opinion.

Will Riot make more Snow Moon skins?

No official announcements as of now. The line hasnt gotten new skins since early 2023. Could be done, could come back for another winter cycle. Riot tends to revisit popular Asian fantasy themes so I wouldn't rule it out. Shen, Yone, and Diana are all obvious candidates if they do expand it. Fingers crossed for a Legendary anchor next time.
