Broken Covenant Skins

Broken Covenant hit the Rift in 2023 and I remember thinking Riot finally nailed a gothic aesthetic without making it feel like another Blood Moon rehash. The whole vibe is stained glass meets dark cathedral, with these shattered religious motifs that actually look distinct from anything else in the game. Been running a few of these skins in my Diamond games since they dropped and the line has a specific identity that sticks. Not every champion fits perfectly, but when it works, it works hard.

What Sets Broken Covenant Apart From Other Dark Skinlines

Riot has no shortage of edgy skinlines. Dark Star, Coven, Eclipse, Blood Moon. Could be wrong here but I think Broken Covenant carves out its own space better than most of those. The visual signature is immediately recognizable: shattered stained glass patterns in the VFX, deep crimson and violet color palette, and this corrupted holy aesthetic that reads like a ruined cathedral brought to life on the Rift.

The splash arts across the line share a unified composition style. Dark backgrounds with sharp light sources cutting through, characters posed in these dramatic broken-window frames. Every splash feels like it belongs in the same gallery. Thats rare for Riot honestly, some skinlines have wildly inconsistent splash quality between champions.

VFX consistency is where it really shines though. The stained glass shattering effect appears across multiple abilities in the line. When you see a Broken Covenant skin in your ranked game, you know it instantly. No confusion with Coven or Eclipse. The particle work uses these geometric glass-shard shapes that fragment outward on ability hits. Clean stuff.

Color palette stays tight too. Deep wine reds, muted golds, bruised purples. Not gonna lie, the restraint impressed me. Riot sometimes goes overboard with color variety within a single skinline (looking at you, Star Guardian season 4) but Broken Covenant keeps it cohesive. The darker tones also mean the skins read well on Summoner's Rift without visual clutter, which matters when you're trying to track abilities in a teamfight at 25 minutes.

(Random aside: the Broken Covenant login screen music was genuinely one of the best ambient tracks Riot put out that year. Had it on loop while grinding ranked for like a week straight.)

Best Broken Covenant Skins Worth Your RP

Eight skins total in the line, and the quality spread is honestly pretty good. No real stinkers. But some clearly stand above.

Broken Covenant Riven is the Legendary of the set and it earns the 1820 RP price tag. New VO, completely reworked animations, the whole package. Her Q combo has these stained glass trail effects that shatter on each strike. Played against a Riven one-trick running this skin last season around February and even getting destroyed in lane I was watching the animations. The recall animation specifically goes hard. Riven kneeling before a shattered altar, sword fragments reassembling. If you main Riven this is a must-lock.

Prestige Broken Covenant Miss Fortune takes the Mythic slot. The white and gold color shift from the base Broken Covenant MF is clean. Feels like the redeemed version of the same character. Not sure if it's just me but the Prestige version actually reads better in game than the base Epic version because the lighter palette pops against the Rift's green. MF mains who grinded the pass for this one came out ahead.

Broken Covenant Vladimir surprised me. Epic tier at 1350 RP. His sustain-heavy kit translates perfectly to the corrupted priest fantasy. The Q heal animation with glass fragments pulling inward? Perfect thematic match. Been spamming this in Diamond on Vlad when I get mid and the pool (W) effect with the shattered floor pattern is genuinely one of the better ability VFX in his skin catalog.

Broken Covenant Cho'Gath is the sleeper pick. Big void monster in dark cathedral robes shouldnt work but it does. The feast stacks scaling visual changes keep the stained glass motif growing with your size. Kinda feels like Riot designed the skinline around champions who could embody corruption, and a growing eldritch horror fits that brief perfectly.

Miss Fortune's base Epic version rounds out my top five. Solid 1350 RP skin with clean bullet VFX and a strong splash. Not as impactful as the Prestige but a good pickup if you missed the event pass.

The Broken Covenant Champion Roster

Seven champions across eight skins (Miss Fortune gets both Epic and Prestige). The roster selection tells you a lot about what Riot was going for with this line.

Vladimir fits like a glove. Blood magic plus corrupted religious imagery is basically his whole deal. The thematic overlap is almost too obvious but it works because the execution delivers. His abilities already have that draining life force energy and the stained glass treatment elevates it.

Riven as the Legendary anchor makes sense from a sales perspective. Huge playerbase, tons of one-tricks in high elo. But thematically she also works. The broken blade, the shattered covenant, the fallen warrior seeking redemption or further corruption. Real talk though, Riven gets a lot of skins and this one justified its existence which isnt always the case.

Xayah and Rakan getting matching skins is standard Riot at this point. They work here. The lovers-in-darkness angle with the corrupted religious motifs gives their duo identity some edge. Seen them paired in bot lane maybe a dozen times since release and the combined VFX when they're both running Broken Covenant looks cohesive.

Nocturne fits the dark aesthetic naturally. Cho'Gath is the weird pick that works. Miss Fortune anchors the Prestige.

Who's missing? Honestly Thresh would have been perfect here. Corrupted warden of a dark cathedral collecting souls through shattered stained glass? Come on Riot. Morgana too. Fallen angel, broken covenant, it writes itself. Maybe if they revisit the line. (Sidebar: I'd also argue Swain fits this line better than half the roster but thats just me being a Swain enjoyer.)

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

The spread across tiers tells an interesting story. Six Epics at 1350 RP each, one Legendary at 1820 RP, one Mythic Prestige. No Standard tier skins at all. Price range runs 1350 to 1820 RP for purchasable skins.

Might be overthinking it but this all-premium approach was clearly intentional. Riot positioned Broken Covenant as an event line and priced accordingly. No budget options. If you wanted in, minimum entry was 1350 RP.

The Legendary carries the line from a content perspective. Riven's Broken Covenant skin has the new VO, animations, and recall that justify 1820 RP. The Epics all deliver above the baseline for their price point though. Good VFX work across the board. Not a single lazy reskin in the bunch.

For the average player looking to grab one or two skins from the line, the Epics represent better value per RP spent. Vladimir and Cho'Gath at 1350 each give you distinctive visual identities without the Legendary premium. Unless you're a Riven main. Then yeah, the 1820 is the obvious play.

Fair warning, the Prestige Miss Fortune required event pass grinding back when it dropped in 2023. If you missed it you're looking at Mythic Essence rotation or crafting now. Not the easiest pickup. The base MF skin at 1350 is the accessible alternative and its solid enough that you wont feel like you're missing out in your ranked games.

Total cost to collect the full set? Doing rough math: six Epics at 1350 (8100 RP) plus the Legendary at 1820 puts you at 9920 RP before the Prestige. That's commitment. Pick your mains and grab those. No need to collect the whole line unless you're that person with every skin in the game and at that point you dont need my advice.

Broken Covenant FAQ

How many Broken Covenant skins are there?

Eight skins total in the Broken Covenant line. Six Epic tier skins, one Legendary (Riven), and one Mythic Prestige (Miss Fortune). All dropped in 2023 as part of the same event cycle. Pretty compact roster compared to something like Star Guardian which has been growing for years. Solid focused collection.

What is the best Broken Covenant skin?

Broken Covenant Riven takes it for me. Legendary tier with new VO, reworked animations, and the best VFX in the line. The Q combo stained glass shatter effect is clean. If you don't play Riven, Broken Covenant Vladimir is the best Epic in the set. His kit matches the theme perfectly and the 1350 RP price feels fair for what you get.

Which champions have Broken Covenant skins?

Seven champions: Vladimir, Miss Fortune (Epic plus Prestige), Cho'Gath, Nocturne, Riven, Rakan, and Xayah. Not gonna lie, it's a well-curated roster. Riven anchors as Legendary, the Xayah-Rakan duo covers bot lane, and Vladimir fits the dark religious corruption theme better than maybe anyone else could.

Does Broken Covenant have Legendary skins?

One Legendary: Broken Covenant Riven at 1820 RP. Full package with new voice lines, reworked animations, unique recall, and the best VFX execution in the line. The Q and R animations with the shattering stained glass are particularly standout. Worth the premium if Riven is in your champion pool.

When did the Broken Covenant skinline release?

Broken Covenant dropped in 2023. The entire line released together as part of an event patch. All eight skins came out at the same time, which gave the line a cohesive launch presence. No staggered rollout across multiple years like Coven or Star Guardian. One focused drop.

Are Broken Covenant skins worth buying?

Depends on your champion pool honestly. The Epics at 1350 RP deliver above average VFX quality for the price. Vladimir and Cho'Gath are standouts. Riven's Legendary earns its 1820 RP. I think the line offers good value if you play even two of the seven champions. Don't buy skins for champs you never lock in though.

Do Broken Covenant skins have chromas?

The Epic skins in the line have chroma sets available. Standard chroma pricing. Some of the color variants hit harder than the base skin depending on the champion. Worth browsing through in the shop before you commit to base colors. The Legendary Riven also has chromas which is always nice for a premium skin.

Will Riot make more Broken Covenant skins?

No official word from Riot on expanding the Broken Covenant line. Could be wrong here but the single-batch release pattern suggests it might stay as a one-off event set. That said, Riot has revisited skinlines years later before. If the line sold well, Thresh, Morgana, or Swain would be perfect additions. Nothing confirmed as of now.
