Varus

Varus Skins

15 skins available

Varus is one of those ADC picks where the skin catalog actually matters because you're staring at the same bow animation for 30 minutes every game. Been maining him on and off since season 3 and I think his collection went from forgettable to genuinely stacked over the years. 15 skins total now. Not the biggest roster but there's range here, from cheap recolors to a full Legendary with new VO. Some of these hit hard. Some feel like Riot forgot about them. Gonna break down the whole lineup for anyone whos trying to figure out which Varus skin deserves your RP.

How Varus Built Up 15 Skins Over the Years

Varus launched in 2012 with Blight Crystal as his release skin. Pretty standard for that era. Basic recolor, no new particles, the kind of skin Riot was pumping out before they figured out what "Epic" even meant. Arclight Varus dropped the same year and honestly that one carried his catalog for a long time. Golden bow, divine theme, it was THE Varus skin for years.

Could be wrong here but I think the real turning point was around 2016-2017. Arctic Ops came in, Dark Star followed, and suddenly Varus had options that actually changed how the champion felt in game. The tier breakdown right now sits at 4 Standard skins, 10 Epics, and 1 Legendary. Heavy Epic lean which is fine because Riot's Epic quality for Varus has been consistently good.

From 2012 all the way to 2025 with Spirit Blossom being the latest addition. That's 13 years of skins. Wild to think about. Not every champion gets that kind of sustained attention but Varus stays relevant in pro play and solo queue so Riot keeps feeding him cosmetics. Makes sense from a business angle.

(Random thought: Varus might be the most aesthetically flexible ADC in the game. Cosmic themes, dark themes, fire themes, snow themes. The bow silhouette just works with everything.)

The collection went from budget territory to having real premium options. Season after season they kept adding to the pile. Played maybe 400 ranked games on Varus across different seasons and I've rotated through most of these skins at some point. Some stuck. Some got benched after a week.

Best Skins for Varus

Empyrean Varus is the crown jewel. Full stop. Only Legendary in the catalog at 1820 RP and it earns every point. New voice lines, completely reworked animations, the Q charge-up alone feels different in a way thats hard to describe. The Empyrean color palette hits this ethereal purple-blue that reads clean against every Rift background. Been spamming this in Diamond whenever I lock in Varus and the W proc particles specifically look incredible. New recall animation too. Real talk though the best part might be the ult visual. Chains of Corruption with the Empyrean treatment looks menacing.

Arctic Ops Varus at 1350 RP is probably the best value pick. Military sniper fantasy. The Q feels like you're charging up an actual rifle shot, the particles have this cold blue tracer effect. Played this one exclusively for like two months back in season 7 I think. Still holds up in 2026 which says something about the quality. Snow Moon exists in a similar cold theme space but Arctic Ops just does it better.

Dark Star Varus. 1350 RP. This one hits different for the cosmic horror crowd. The recall animation where he gets consumed by the void-star energy is genuinely cool. Q arrows trail dark matter. Kinda feels like this skin was designed for poke comps where you're just lobbing charged Qs from backline for 25 minutes. Seen this one a lot in my games, probably the most popular Varus skin in ranked from what I can tell.

Heartseeker Varus deserves a mention. Not gonna lie, I dismissed it for years because the Valentine's theme felt gimmicky. Then I actually used it in an ARAM last February and the pink particle effects on his abilities are surprisingly clean. The E especially. 1350 RP, better than it looks in the splash.

Infernal Varus rounds out my top five. Fire theme. Orange-red particles across all abilities. The R chains look like molten metal wrapping around targets. Good skin. Not spectacular but solid for 1350 RP. Locked this in for most of season 10 during my Varus one-trick phase and it never got old visually.

Skinlines and Where Varus Fits

Varus shows up across a pretty wild spread of skinlines. Arclight was his first thematic home and honestly it still fits him better than most. The divine archer fantasy maps perfectly onto his kit. Dark Star took him cosmic which works because the Darkin lore already has that otherworldly angle. Makes sense thematically even if the skinline connection isnt obvious at first.

Arctic Ops pulled him into the military ops universe. Not sure if it's just me but that's where Varus feels most like a sniper rather than an archer. Different vibe entirely. Heartbreakers gave him the Valentine's treatment which, fair warning, either you love or you hate. No middle ground on pink Varus.

Conqueror Varus came from the esports line. Gold and white color scheme celebrating competitive play. Cool if you follow pro LoL, forgettable if you don't. The Rift Quest (Varus Swiftbolt) skin went full RPG fantasy. Might be overthinking it but that one feels like it was designed for a completely different game.

Spirit Blossom being his newest skin in 2025 put him into one of Riot's most popular skinlines. The ethereal Japanese folklore aesthetic works surprisingly well with the bow animations. PROJECT: Varus exists too and it's fine. Cyberpunk Varus. Does what it says on the tin. High Noon gave him the western gunslinger energy which honestly might be peak thematic creativity for a bow champion.

Cosmic Hunter rounds out the cosmic side of his catalog alongside Dark Star. Two different takes on the space theme for one champion. Bit much but both look good in practice.

Budget Picks vs Going Premium on Varus

Real question for Varus mains on a budget: can you skip the Legendary? Honestly, kinda. Empyrean Varus at 1820 RP is the best skin he has but the gap between it and the top Epics isnt as massive as some other champions. Arctic Ops or Dark Star at 1350 RP each give you 80% of the experience for 74% of the price.

Standard tier skins (750 RP range) are harder to recommend in 2026. Blight Crystal and Arclight were fine for their era. Arclight specifically still has fans because the golden aesthetic is unique in his catalog. But the particle work just cant compete with modern Epics. You notice it especially on Q and R.

Best value pick: Arctic Ops. 1350 RP, holds up after years, clean particles, good theme. If you're climbing ranked and want one Varus skin that works everywhere, thats the one. Save the Legendary purchase for when you hit a milestone or it goes on sale.

If money isnt the issue though, Empyrean is the clear winner. New VO, new animations, the whole package. Worth 1820 RP if you main Varus. No question. (Sidebar: I bought the bundle on release day during a late night ranked session around 1 AM and zero regrets.)

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Varus have?

15 skins total as of 2025. Solid number for an ADC thats been around since 2012. Four Standard tier, ten Epics, one Legendary. The catalog leans heavily Epic which is honestly ideal because that's where Riot puts the best work-to-price ratio for Varus specifically.

What is the best Varus skin?

Empyrean Varus. The only Legendary he has and it delivers. New voice lines, reworked ability VFX, the Q charge feels completely different. Been my go-to Varus skin since it dropped. If you want a budget option, Arctic Ops at 1350 RP punches way above its weight class.

What is the cheapest Varus skin?

Blight Crystal Varus at 750 RP is the cheapest you can grab from the shop. It's a basic recolor from his 2012 launch. No new particles or animations. Gets the job done if you just want something different from default but dont expect anything fancy. Arclight at 750 too.

Does Varus have a Legendary skin?

Yeah, one. Empyrean Varus at 1820 RP. Full Legendary treatment with new VO, animations, recall, and completely reworked particles on every ability. The ult chains look wild. Took a while for Varus to get one but Riot made it count when they finally did.

What skinlines is Varus in?

Quite a few. Arclight, Arctic Ops, Heartbreakers, Dark Star, Conqueror, Infernal, PROJECT, Cosmic, High Noon, Snow Moon, Empyrean, Spirit Blossom, and Rift Quest. Wide spread. Feels like Riot tested every theme on him. Dark Star and Empyrean fit him best in my ranked experience.

Does Varus have chromas?

Several of his Epic skins have chroma packs. Dark Star, Infernal, and the newer releases all got chroma treatment. Some of the color options genuinely change the vibe. Obsidian Dark Star Varus looks cleaner than the base version to me. Worth browsing the chroma previews before buying.

When was Varus's last skin released?

Spirit Blossom Varus in 2025. The Japanese folklore aesthetic with cherry blossom particles on his abilities. Looks great. Riot's been consistent with giving Varus at least one skin every year or two. Not the fastest cadence but he doesnt get forgotten either.

Is Varus worth buying skins for?

If you play ADC at all, yeah. Varus stays meta-relevant for poke comps and lethality builds, sometimes on-hit too. The champion cycles in and out of pro play but never fully disappears from solo queue. His skins translate well in-game because the bow animations are so visible. Good investment for ranked grinders.
