Ryze Skins

14 skins available

Ryze is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells a story about how far League has come. Fourteen skins deep and not a single Legendary in the bunch. Honestly not gonna lie, that surprised me when I actually counted them up. Been maining Ryze on and off since season 4 and the guy deserves better than what Riot's given him in some of these older releases. But there's gems in here. A few of the Epics hit way above their weight class, and even some 520 RP skins have a charm you cant find on newer champions. The collection is uneven but when it hits, it hits.

How Ryze's Skin Collection Shaped Up Over the Years

Fourteen skins total. Ten Standards and four Epics. No Legendary, no Ultimate, no Mythic. For a champion who's been in the game since literally day one, thats a weird look. Ryze was one of the original 40 champions at launch, and his earliest skins reflect that era perfectly. Young Ryze is a Collector's Edition piece from the very beginning of League. Tribal Ryze and Uncle Ryze came out around the same window. These are texture swaps from a time when Riot was a tiny studio running on fumes and passion.

The quality jump happened gradually. Professor Ryze, Zombie Ryze, Dark Crystal Ryze - these middle-era skins started adding real personality even at the Standard tier. Not groundbreaking stuff but solid model changes with distinct color palettes. Then around 2015-2016 the Epic skins started rolling in and the gap between old and new became massive.

Could be wrong here but I think Ryze got kind of neglected during the whole rework cycle. The guy's been reworked what, six times? Seven? Hard to justify fancy skins when the base kit keeps getting rebuilt from scratch. Every time Riot touched his gameplay they had to update all existing skins too. That's expensive development time for a champion who wasnt exactly selling like Lux or Ahri.

(Random aside: I distinctly remember the EQ combo memes during one of his reworks. The entire subreddit was on fire.) The newest skin is Arcana Ryze from 2022, which means he's gone over three years without anything new as of now. Rough.

Price range sits between 520 RP for the older Standards and 1350 RP for the four Epics. No premium tier options at all. Feels like Riot views Ryze as a "we'll get to him eventually" champion when it comes to the cosmetics pipeline.

Best Ryze Skins Worth Locking In

Worlds 2019 Ryze. Full stop. This is the one. The championship theme translates perfectly to his spell-slinger fantasy. Blue and gold VFX on his Q feel crisp in a way that base Ryze just doesnt match. The recall animation references the Worlds trophy and the overall polish is what you'd expect from a 1350 RP skin in 2019. Spammed this in Diamond for two splits straight and never got bored of it. The particle effects on his E spread are genuinely satisfying to watch in teamfights when you're hitting the combo right.

Guardian of the Sands Ryze comes in second for me. Egyptian-themed Ryze with sandy gold particles on his abilities. The W root cage gets this cool sandstone texture that reads really well in lane. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attack animation feels smoother on this skin too. Probably placebo. 1350 RP and I think it's fair for what you get.

Arcana Ryze is the newest at 1350 RP, released 2022. Tarot card aesthetic. The splash is gorgeous and the in-game model holds up. His Q bolts have this mystical card-themed trail that pops against the Rift. Kinda feels like this should have been a Legendary with new voice lines to match the theme. Instead we got the standard Epic treatment. Still good. Just feels like missed potential.

Blood Moon Ryze surprised me. Another 1350 RP Epic and it leans hard into the demonic mask aesthetic. The red VFX on everything give him an aggressive look that base Ryze completely lacks. Played maybe 40 games with this one last season and it grew on me. The recall is solid, the model changes are significant. Top four easy.

Young Ryze deserves a mention even though it's not something you can just buy. Collector's Edition exclusive. If you have it, you know. If you dont, there's no legitimate way to get it anymore. It's a piece of League history more than a competitive skin pick.

Skinlines and Where Ryze Shows Up

Ryze pops up in a bunch of skinlines but none of them really became "his thing" the way Project is for Yi or Star Guardian is for Lux. He's scattered across Collector's Edition, Wonders of the World, Triumphant, Academy, Zombies VS Slayers, Bloodstone, Bilgewater, and others. Real mixed bag.

The Arcana line fits him best in my opinion. Mystical scholar with ancient rune knowledge channeling tarot energy? That's a natural extension of his base fantasy. Riot could have leaned harder into this. Give him the Legendary Arcana treatment with new voice lines about fate and prophecy. Would have been perfect.

Blood Moon is another strong thematic fit. Ryze already deals with dangerous forbidden magic in his lore. The Blood Moon cult aesthetic maps onto that cleanly. Might be overthinking it but there's something about the red-and-white mask contrast against his blue skin that just works visually in a way other champions in that line dont always pull off.

Zombie Ryze from the Zombies VS Slayers line is fun but purely novelty. Same with Pirate Ryze from Bilgewater. These are "pick it for the meme in normals" skins. Nothing wrong with that. Not every skin needs to be serious.

(Sidebar for Ryze mains specifically: Triumphant Ryze is the tournament reward skin that you literally cannot buy. If you see one in your game, that person won an official Riot-sanctioned tournament. Respect it.) The skinline diversity is there but depth isn't. One skin per line across the board. No doubles anywhere.

Budget Picks vs Premium: Getting the Most Out of Ryze's Catalog

Since Ryze has no Legendary or higher tier skins, the "premium" ceiling is 1350 RP. That actually makes the decision easier. Four Epics at 1350 and ten Standards ranging from 520 to 975 RP. Simple spread.

Best value pick is Dark Crystal Ryze at 975 RP. The dark purple crystal theme changes his look significantly for under a thousand RP. Model is distinct, the color palette is unique in his roster. For ranked games where you want something that isn't base but dont want to drop 1350, this is the answer. Been daily driving it on my alt account and it holds up fine.

Professor Ryze at 750 RP is another sleeper. Ryze in a graduation cap throwing spells. It's goofy in the best way. The kind of skin you lock in when you're feeling good about your gameplay and want to flex the "I'm so smart" energy while combo-ing people in lane. Real talk though, for 750 RP you're getting a solid model change and a fun personality shift.

If budget isnt a concern, Worlds 2019 Ryze at 1350 is the obvious pick. Best particles, best recall, best overall package in the roster. Arcana and Guardian of the Sands are strong alternatives if you prefer their aesthetics. All four Epics are honestly good purchases for Ryze mains. Not a dud among them.

The real question is whether Ryze is worth investing skins into at all given his current state in the meta. He's been reworked so many times that maining him feels like a commitment to chaos. But if you're already in, if you're already that person who locks Ryze into ranked and knows the combos, then yeah. The Epic skins make the experience noticeably better. The VFX upgrades on his spell rotations matter when you're spamming Q-E-Q in teamfights for the hundredth time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Ryze have?

Ryze has 14 skins total. Ten Standards and four Epics. No Legendary or above, which is honestly criminal for one of the original League champions. Been in the game since 2009 and still waiting on that premium tier skin. Maybe someday.

What is the best Ryze skin?

Worlds 2019 Ryze for me. The blue and gold VFX are clean, the recall references the championship trophy, and the overall polish is top tier for 1350 RP. Spammed this one for two splits in Diamond. Arcana Ryze is a close second if you prefer the mystical tarot vibe over the esports theme.

What is the cheapest Ryze skin?

Tribal Ryze and Uncle Ryze sit at 520 RP. They're old school texture changes from early League. Not much to them honestly but if you just want something different from base for cheap, they do the job. Dark Crystal Ryze at 975 is the better budget pick though.

Does Ryze have a Legendary skin?

Nope. No Legendary, no Ultimate, no Mythic. His highest tier is Epic at 1350 RP with four options. Feels like a gap Riot should fill eventually. A champion with this much history and six reworks deserves at least one Legendary with new voice lines. Still waiting.

What skinlines is Ryze in?

Ryze shows up in Arcana, Blood Moon, Guardian of the Sands, Worlds, Collector's Edition, Zombies VS Slayers, Bilgewater, Bloodstone, Academy, and a few more. Scattered across a bunch of lines with one skin each. Arcana and Blood Moon fit his fantasy best in my experience.

Does Ryze have chromas?

Some of his newer Epic skins have chromas available. Arcana Ryze and Blood Moon Ryze both got chroma sets. The older Standard skins dont have any. If you want color variety, you're looking at the 1350 RP tier skins for those options.

When was Ryze's last skin released?

Arcana Ryze in 2022. That's over three years ago now with nothing new announced. Pretty long drought. Could be that Riot's saving him for something big or could be he's just low priority on the skin schedule. Hard to say. Mains are definitely feeling the wait.

Is Ryze worth buying skins for?

If you're a Ryze main or one-trick, absolutely. The Epic skins genuinely improve how he feels in game. The VFX on his spell combos look way better with Worlds 2019 or Arcana equipped. If you only play him occasionally though, maybe just grab Dark Crystal for 975 RP and call it a day.
