Rammus Skins
11 skins availableRammus is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells you everything about how Riot treats simple kits. Eleven skins across fifteen years and most of them are just texture swaps on a rolling armadillo. Not gonna lie, I've been a Rammus enjoyer since season 4 and the skin situation has always felt thin compared to what flashier junglers get. Two Epics, one Mythic, and eight Standards. That's the breakdown. But there's a handful of genuinely good options in there if you know where to look, and I've tested pretty much all of them across hundreds of ranked games in Diamond.

How Rammus Skins Have Evolved Over the Years
King Rammus dropped in 2009. Beta reward skin. If you have it you're either a day-one player or lying about your account age. The skin itself is a Bowser reference and honestly it still looks decent for how old it is. Simple recolor, no new particles, no new sounds. Just a fun flex in loading screen that says "I was here before most of you knew this game existed."
From 2009 through about 2015, Rammus got the standard Riot treatment for low-playrate tanks. Chrome Rammus, Molten Rammus, Freljord Rammus, Ninja Rammus. All 520 to 750 RP range. All texture changes with maybe a slight model tweak. Could be wrong here but I think Riot just didn't see the profit in giving a ball that rolls around the jungle a bunch of fancy VFX work. Fair enough.
Full Metal Rammus came out in 2012 and that was probably the first skin that felt like an actual upgrade. Still Standard tier at 750 RP but the metallic shell looked clean. Guardian of the Sands followed in 2015 and kept the same energy. Decent model work, no new particles worth mentioning. Sweeper Rammus was the Soccer Cup tie-in, fun for Worlds season but nothing you'd run year-round in ranked.
The real turning point was 2020 onwards. Astronaut Rammus in 2021 was the first Epic tier skin Rammus ever got. Think about that. Twelve years before the champion got a 1350 RP skin with actual new VFX and sound effects. Then Hextech Rammus landed as a Mythic crafting exclusive. And Durian Defender in 2024 gave him a second Epic. Three quality skins in four years after a decade of recolors. Better late than never I guess.
Eleven skins total spanning 2009 to 2024. Not a huge catalog by any measure. Champions like Lux or Ezreal have triple that. But Rammus mains arent exactly spoiled for choice and thats part of the charm. You pick your skin and you commit to it because there's only a few real options anyway.
Best Rammus Skins Worth Your RP
Astronaut Rammus. This is the one. 1350 RP and it actually transforms the whole Rammus experience. The space suit shell design looks phenomenal, the Q powerball animation has this rocket booster trail that just hits different when you're rolling into bot lane at mach speed. W defensive ball curl gets this translucent energy shield effect. R tremors has these impact craters with astronaut debris. Played maybe 150 games with this skin in season 12 and 13 and it never got old. The recall animation where he bounces around in low gravity is genuinely fun to watch. If you're buying one Rammus skin, this is it.
Hextech Rammus is technically the best looking skin in the collection. Mythic tier, crafted through Hextech or Mythic Essence. The crystalline shell with those blue and gold hex patterns is gorgeous. Every ability has custom blue-tinted particle work. Problem is accessibility. You cant just buy it. Need to grind or get lucky with drops. Seen maybe five of these in my games total across three seasons. (Random aside: I actually got mine from a reroll during the 2023 Worlds event and felt like I won the lottery.) If you have the Mythic Essence sitting around, worth crafting for sure.
Durian Defender Rammus dropped in 2024 and kinda feels like Riot's comedy pick for the champion. 1350 RP Epic with the full package of new VFX and SFX. The durian fruit shell is hilarious. Spiky, green, looks ridiculous rolling through the Rift at max speed. Q turns him into a literal rolling fruit. Been running this in Diamond lately and the amount of "what is that skin" comments in all chat is worth the price alone. Not the most serious option but Rammus has never been a serious champion anyway.
King Rammus deserves a mention even though you literally cannot obtain it anymore. Beta exclusive. The Bowser homage. If you're in a game and someone locks in King Rammus you know that account is ancient. No gameplay changes, no new effects. Pure status symbol.
Chrome Rammus at 750 RP is the budget king. Might be overthinking it but the silver metallic finish on his shell actually reads really well in game. Cleaner than base Rammus by a solid margin. For less than the cost of most Epic chromas you get a skin that looks like it could pass for 975 RP. Best value in the entire Rammus catalog if you're not trying to spend big.
Skinlines and Thematic Fit
Rammus appears across a scattered mix of skinlines. Freljord, Infernal (Molten), Heavy Metal (Full Metal), Guardian of the Sands, Soccer Cup (Sweeper), Hextech, and Astronaut. No real commitment to any single universe. He's a one-off in most of these lines.
The Astronaut line fits him perfectly though. Real talk. A champion whose entire kit revolves around rolling into a ball and bouncing around the map? Put him in a space suit with low gravity physics and it just works. The thematic synergy between Rammus's gameplay identity and the Astronaut concept is probably the strongest match in his whole catalog. Played a ton of Astronaut Rammus in my climb last split and it genuinely makes the champion more fun.
Guardian of the Sands is a close second for thematic fit. The sand scarab aesthetic works for an armadillo champion. Hextech is gorgeous but feels more like a prestige treatment than a thematic statement. Full Metal had potential back in 2012 but the execution was limited by the tech at the time. No new particles, no new sounds, just a silver shell.
Honestly I think Rammus could use a Dark Star or Cosmic skin. Something that leans into the rolling ball fantasy with actual cosmic VFX. Or Elderwood with a nature-themed shell. The champion's simple silhouette means you can do a lot with creative shell designs. Riot just hasnt explored that space much yet. Maybe in season 15.
Budget Picks vs Premium Options
The split here is pretty clean. You've got eight Standard skins ranging from 520 to 750 RP and two Epics at 1350 RP each. Plus the Mythic Hextech sitting in its own category.
If you want the best gameplay experience, Astronaut Rammus at 1350 RP is the clear winner. New model, new VFX on every ability, new SFX, new recall. Worth every point of RP for Rammus mains. Durian Defender matches it feature for feature at the same price but the comedy aesthetic isn't for everyone.
Budget side, Chrome Rammus at 750 RP punches way above its weight. Clean model, good in-game clarity, and cheap enough that you wont feel bad about it. Full Metal at 750 is similar value. Ninja Rammus at 750 has its fans too. Not sure if its just me but the purple ninja wrap on an armadillo is funnier than it should be. For pure flex value nothing beats King Rammus but that's a closed club. Freljord Rammus at 520 RP is literally the cheapest option and looks fine for what it is. Nothing special, nothing offensive. Standard Riot 520 treatment from the early days.
Skip Molten and Sweeper unless you're a completionist. Both are fine but forgettable. Neither adds anything meaningful over Chrome or Full Metal at the same price point.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many skins does Rammus have?
Rammus has 11 skins total as of 2024. Eight Standard tier, two Epic, one Mythic. Not a huge collection compared to popular champs but there's enough variety to find something you like. The catalog spans from 2009 all the way to 2024 so quality varies a lot between the old and new ones.
What is the best Rammus skin?
Astronaut Rammus. Full stop. 1350 RP with new VFX on every ability, custom sounds, great recall animation. Been spamming it in ranked for two seasons and it still feels fresh. Hextech Rammus looks better technically but you cant buy it outright so Astronaut wins for accessibility alone.
What is the cheapest Rammus skin?
Freljord Rammus and Molten Rammus both sit at 520 RP. Cheapest you can get. Neither has new particles or sounds though, just model and texture changes. If you can stretch to 750 RP, Chrome Rammus is way better value. Cleaner look, better in-game read.
Does Rammus have a Legendary skin?
Nope. No Legendary for Rammus. His highest tier is Mythic with Hextech Rammus. The two Epics at 1350 RP are the best you can buy directly. Kinda feels like Riot doesnt see the profit in giving a tank jungler the full Legendary treatment. Maybe someday but I wouldnt hold my breath.
What skinlines is Rammus in?
Scattered across a bunch. Freljord, Infernal, Heavy Metal, Guardian of the Sands, Soccer Cup, Hextech, and Astronaut. He's a one-off in most of them. No dedicated Rammus skinline universe. Astronaut fits him best if you ask me, the space rolling ball thing just works perfectly with his kit.
Does Rammus have chromas?
Astronaut Rammus and Durian Defender Rammus both have chromas available. The Epic skins got the chroma treatment which makes sense since they're the premium options. Standard tier Rammus skins don't have chromas. If you want color variety, stick with one of the two Epics.
When was Rammus's last skin released?
Durian Defender Rammus in 2024. Epic tier at 1350 RP. The durian fruit theme is comedy gold and the VFX work is solid. Before that it was Astronaut Rammus in 2021 so Riot went three years between releases. Par for the course with low-pickrate tanks honestly.
Is Rammus worth buying skins for?
If you main him or play him regularly in the jungle, yeah. Astronaut Rammus alone justifies the investment. 1350 RP for a skin that transforms the champion's feel. (Sidebar: I think Rammus is one of those champs where one good skin is all you need.) Dont go buying the whole catalog though unless you're collecting.
