Galio Skins

10 skins available

Galio is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells a story about how Riot figured out what to do with him. Ten skins spanning from 2010 to 2023, and honestly the first few feel like they belong to a completely different game. Which they kind of do. Pre-rework Galio was a different beast, and the old skins carry that energy. Been playing him on and off since season 7 when the rework dropped, mostly as a mid counter-pick into assassin comps, and the difference between his worst skin and his best is night and day. Not even close.

How Galio's Skin Collection Shaped Up Over the Years

Ten skins across thirteen years. Thats a slower pace than most champions get, but Galio spent a long time as a niche pick before the 2017 rework turned him into a viable mid laner and support flex. The breakdown sits at five Standard tier skins, three Epics, and two Legendaries. Not bad for a stone gargoyle that half the playerbase forgets exists.

The earliest stuff is rough. Enchanted Galio dropped in 2010 and its basically a palette swap. Hextech Galio came around the same era. These are pre-rework relics that got visual updates when the champion rework hit, but they still feel thin compared to modern releases. Commando Galio falls in that same bucket. Functional. Nothing special.

Things got interesting with Gatekeeper Galio in 2012. Legendary tier before Legendary meant what it means now, but even then it stood out. The demonic theme was a hard left turn from his base kit fantasy and it worked. Then Riot basically forgot about him for a while. Debonair showed up, Birdio happened (still not sure how I feel about that one), and the catalog was just kind of sitting there.

Real momentum came post-2018. Infernal Galio, Dragon Guardian Galio, Mythmaker Galio. Three Epics in relatively quick succession that actually leveraged his reworked model properly. Could be wrong here but I think Riot finally understood what Galio's silhouette could do with proper VFX treatment. The wings, the size, the ult animation. Lots to work with once someone actually commits to it.

Aegis Frame Galio rounds things out as the second Legendary. Two Legendaries on a champion with ten skins is a solid ratio. Most champions dont get their first Legendary until skin number fifteen or twenty.

Best Skins for Galio

Gatekeeper Galio. Full stop. This is the one. 1820 RP Legendary with a demonic redesign that turns the Colossus into something out of a Diablo cutscene. The Q fireball gets this massive hellfire effect, W shield radiates dark energy, and the ult landing? One of the most satisfying impact animations in the game. Played maybe 40 ranked games with this skin last season and the R into a teamfight just hits different when you're dropping in as a demon lord. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I lock this in because the recall sound effect annoys him.) The voice lines carry a lot of personality too. Deep, menacing, fits the fantasy perfectly.

Infernal Galio at 1350 RP is the best Epic option and honestly punches close to Legendary territory. The fire and lava effects on his abilities read clean in teamfights. His E dash leaves a molten trail, the W taunt zone gets this heat shimmer effect. Real talk though, the reason I keep coming back to Infernal is the color contrast. Orange and black against the Rift just pops. Visibility matters when you're trying to peel for your ADC and need your team to see the taunt zone.

Dragon Guardian Galio surprised me. Wasnt expecting much from a Dragon World skin on a gargoyle champion but the execution is solid. 1350 RP, jade and gold color scheme, and the abilities have this crystalline dragon energy that works with his protector fantasy. The ult especially. Dropping in with dragon wings feels thematically right for a champion whose whole kit is about showing up to save your team.

Mythmaker Galio is the newest at 2023 and it leans into the Lunar New Year aesthetic. Clean skin. Maybe not my first pick but the red and gold VFX on his Q are gorgeous. Been running this in my Diamond games when I want something fresh. The recall animation where he does the lion dance pose is a nice touch.

Aegis Frame Galio goes hard on the mech fantasy. Second Legendary in the catalog and it takes him in a completely different direction than Gatekeeper. Tech-focused, clean lines, futuristic VO. Might be overthinking it but I think having two Legendaries that go in opposite thematic directions (demon vs mech) is the best possible outcome for Galio mains. Covers both ends of the spectrum.

Skinlines and Where Galio Fits

Galio shows up across a bunch of skinlines but not all of them land equally. The Infernal line is maybe the best thematic fit outside of his base gargoyle fantasy. Stone creature plus fire and brimstone just makes sense. The Dragon World line works too because of the guardian angle. Galio's whole identity is "big protector who flies in to save the day" and dragon guardians fit that cleanly.

Debonair Galio exists and its fine. Suited-up gargoyle at a cocktail party. Funny concept but the execution is pretty basic since its a Standard tier skin. Not sure if it's just me but I always thought Galio deserved the Debonair 2.0 treatment they gave some other champions. The updated Debonair line with the green VFX would have looked incredible on his kit.

Commando is whatever. Legacy military theme, works on some champions, feels generic on Galio. Birdio is the Culinary Masters entry and look. Its a meme skin. Chicken Galio. You either love it or you skip it, there's no middle ground. Spammed it in norms for a week when it came out around season 8 I think, got some laughs in all chat, moved on.

Hextech Galio is one of the original Hextech skins from before Hextech became the crafting-exclusive premium line. Different era entirely. Legacy catalog now. The skinline diversity is decent for ten skins but I'd love to see Galio in something like Dark Star or Cosmic. His ult animation would be absolutely insane with a space theme. Riot if you're reading this. Please.

Budget vs Premium: What to Buy on Galio

The Standard tier options (520-975 RP range) are all pre-rework designs that got updated models but minimal VFX changes. Enchanted, Hextech, Commando, Debonair, Birdio. If you're just looking for something different from base Galio on a budget, Birdio at 975 is probably the move purely for the comedy value. Debonair is clean enough at 750 if you want something more serious.

But honestly? Save for an Epic. The jump from Standard to Epic on Galio is massive. Infernal at 1350 RP is the best value skin in his entire catalog. New VFX on every ability, new recall, new sound effects. It feels like a different champion. Dragon Guardian and Mythmaker are both solid at the same price point but Infernal edges them out.

If you're a Galio one-trick and you want to go premium, Gatekeeper at 1820 is worth every RP. Full Legendary price and it earns it. New VO, new animations, completely reimagined theme. Been daily driving it in ranked for three seasons now and havent gotten tired of it. Kinda feels like the definitive Galio experience if budget isnt a concern. The only question is whether you prefer the demon fantasy or the mech angle from Aegis Frame, and thats purely personal taste.

For climbing ranked specifically, I'd recommend Infernal or Gatekeeper. Both have clear, readable ability effects that help your team understand your cooldowns in lane and in teamfights. Some skins look cool but muddy the visual clarity. These two don't have that problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Galio have?

Galio has 10 skins total as of 2023. Five Standard tier, three Epics, and two Legendaries. Solid catalog for a champion who spent years as a niche pick. The range goes from 2010 all the way to 2023 so you can really see how Riot's skin quality evolved over time. Decent spread.

What is the best Galio skin?

Gatekeeper Galio. Not even a debate in my ranked games. The demonic redesign at 1820 RP gives him new VO, completely reworked VFX on every ability, and the best ult landing animation in his catalog. Been spamming it for seasons. If you want Epic tier value though, Infernal Galio at 1350 is the pick.

What is the cheapest Galio skin?

Enchanted Galio at 520 RP is the cheapest option. Its a legacy skin from 2010 though, so basically just a recolor. Hextech and Commando Galio sit around the same budget range. Honestly none of the cheap options are amazing but they exist if you just want something different from base.

Does Galio have a Legendary skin?

Two Legendaries actually. Gatekeeper Galio (1820 RP) goes full demon with new voice lines and VFX. Aegis Frame Galio takes the mech route with a futuristic theme. Having two Legendaries that go in completely opposite thematic directions is great for mains. Covers both fantasy angles.

What skinlines is Galio in?

Galio shows up in Infernal, Dragon World, Debonair, Commando, Culinary Masters (thats Birdio), Hextech, Demonic, and the Mythmaker line. Infernal and Dragon World fit him best I think. The guardian and elemental themes match his kit fantasy naturally. Commando and Debonair are more generic fits.

Does Galio have chromas?

Some of his newer skins have chromas available. The Epic tier skins like Infernal, Dragon Guardian, and Mythmaker Galio all got chroma sets. Standard tier skins mostly dont have them. If you're grabbing an Epic skin, check the chroma bundles because a few of them hit harder than the base color scheme.

When was Galio's last skin released?

Mythmaker Galio dropped in 2023. Part of the Lunar New Year event. Red and gold color scheme with clean VFX. Before that there was a bit of a gap. Galio isnt on the yearly skin rotation for popular champions but he's been getting more attention since the rework. Hoping for something new soon.

Is Galio worth buying skins for?

If you play him regularly in ranked, absolutely. His model is big and expressive so skins actually show up in game unlike some smaller champions. The ult animation alone makes Legendary skins worth it on Galio. Even at Epic tier the VFX upgrades are noticeable. Could be wrong but I think he's one of the better champions to invest skin money into.
