First game I loaded this skin into, my duo partner literally pinged me three times asking what I was wearing. Panda Pal Lux caught me off guard. Not sure if it’s just me but I wasnt expecting Riot to go this hard on a cute animal companion concept for Lux of all champions. She already has a massive skin catalog and somehow they found room for one more that actually feels different from the rest.
What Panda Pal Lux actually looks like in game
So the whole concept revolves around Lux paired up with a panda companion. The model rework gives her this softer, rounder aesthetic that leans into the kawaii side without going full Star Guardian territory. Different vibe entirely. Her outfit pulls bamboo greens and classic black-and-white panda tones, and the panda itself shows up in her animations in ways that make the skin feel alive during lane phase.
Voice lines stay base, no new VO here. Standard for an Epic skin. The particle work on her abilities is where things get interesting though. Her Q binding, her W shield, her E zone, her R laser – they all carry the panda theme through color shifts and subtle thematic touches. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 15 games now and the E especially reads clean against the Rift. Good visibility on it which matters when you’re trying to zone in teamfights.
No new recall animation either. Kinda feels like Riot could have added one given how much personality the panda companion brings to the base animations. Missed opportunity there. The splash art does heavy lifting though (random aside: the panda in the splash genuinely looks like it could be a Tibbers-tier mascot). In-game the model holds up well at normal camera distance. Up close during replays you can see the detail on the panda’s expressions which is a nice touch.
Chromas and the collection angle
8 chromas total for Panda Pal Lux. Thats a solid lineup. Obsidian goes dark mode on the whole skin and honestly reads like a completely different concept. Amethyst pulls the purple mage fantasy harder than base does. Pearl keeps things clean and bright, good pick if you want maximum visibility on your abilities during late-game teamfights where particle clutter gets insane.
Not gonna list every single one because at this point you know the drill with chroma packs. Ruby exists for the completionists. Catseye and Turquoise fill out the warm and cool ends of the spectrum. The panda companion shifts colors to match each chroma which is a detail I didnt notice until my third game with Sapphire. Could be wrong here but I think the companion color matching is what makes this chroma set feel more cohesive than most.
Shop has it. Permanent availability so no rush. Epic tier pricing on this one.
Where Panda Pal sits in the Lux skin tier list
Real talk though. Lux has maybe the deepest skin pool in the entire game. You’re competing against Elementalist, Dark Cosmic, Space Groove, Porcelain, Star Guardian. Heavy hitters. Panda Pal Lux carves out its own lane by being the cozy pick. This isnt the skin you lock in when you want to look intimidating in champ select. This is the skin you run at 2 AM on a Tuesday when you’re spamming ranked and want something that makes you smile between cs-ing waves.
Played maybe 15 games with this last week specifically. The panda companion growing on me each game. My Ahri one-trick friend said it looked “too cute for ranked” and I think that’s the point. Not every Lux skin needs to be cosmic or military themed. Sometimes you just want to peel for your ADC while a panda watches.
Fair warning – if you already own Porcelain Lux or Space Groove Lux you might feel overlap in the “cute and colorful” category. Panda Pal Lux handles it differently but the emotional slot is similar. For Lux mains who collect everything this is an easy grab. For people picking one mid-tier Lux skin, I’d say compare it against Porcelain directly. Both strong. Panda Pal wins on personality, Porcelain wins on polish.
Verdict time. Good skin. Not the best Lux skin full stop but it doesn’t need to be. The panda companion concept works, the chromas extend the value, and it fills a niche in her roster that nothing else covers. Overpriced? Hard to say without seeing it on sale but for Epic tier pricing it delivers what you’d expect. Worth it if you main Lux and want something lighter in your rotation. Skip it if you’re only buying one Lux skin ever – that slot belongs to Elementalist or Dark Cosmic depending on your budget.
