First game I played with Shockblade Qiyana was around 1 AM on a Wednesday, right after patch day in February 2022. Locked her in, loaded up, and the moment I saw the lightning crackling off the ohmlatl in the loading screen I knew Riot did something right here. Been a Qiyana player since her release and this skin just clicked with me in a way Battle Boss never did. Not gonna lie, I expected another mid-tier Epic and got something that actually felt premium.
The lightning VFX carry everything
So what actually changes. The model gets a full rework into this electric ninja aesthetic. Dark outfit, sharp geometric patterns, and her weapon shifts to a blade thats wrapped in blue-white energy. Clean design. No clutter.
The VFX are where the real value sits. Her Q shoots out these arcing lightning bolts depending on the element she grabs. Brush Q gets a green-tinted electric trail, wall Q feels heavier with rock-textured sparks, and river Q pulses with this bright water-lightning hybrid. Each element reads differently in teamfights which honestly matters when you’re trying to track your own abilities in a chaotic 5v5 at dragon.
W element swap has a crackling transition effect. Subtle but it makes rotating between elements feel snappier. Could be wrong here but I think the animation cancels feel slightly smoother with this skin, probably placebo though. Her E dash leaves behind a short lightning trail and the R is the highlight. Supreme Display of Talent sends out this massive shockwave with branching electricity across the terrain. Trapped their Jinx against baron wall last week with it and the visual payoff was chef’s kiss.
New recall animation too. She summons a lightning storm, channels it through her blade, very anime energy. Voice lines stay base, no new VO which is expected at the 1350 RP tier. Standard for an Epic skin.
Shockblade line and who made it
Shockblade Qiyana released February 17, 2022. Mid-season 12 if I remember right. Félix Donadio and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has Qiyana mid-strike with lightning radiating outward, her expression is this confident smirk that fits the character.
The Shockblade skinline is one of those themes Riot revisits every couple years. Zed and Shen got Shockblade skins too, plus Kassadin later. Kinda feels like Riot uses the Shockblade line as their safe pick for assassin-adjacent champions. It works though. The electric aesthetic maps naturally onto Qiyana’s element-swapping kit.
8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my personal favorite, goes full dark with black lightning that reads super clean on the Rift. Amethyst shifts the palette to purple which hits harder than you’d expect for a Qiyana skin. Pearl is interesting if you want the light aesthetic but honestly I kept coming back to Obsidian after trying them all. (Random aside: my duo partner bought every single chroma day one and still only uses Ruby because red is “his color” apparently.)
Where it sits in Qiyana’s lineup
Qiyana has some solid options. True Damage is the flashy music skin with the prestige variant. Battle Queen has the transforming elements gimmick. Battle Boss is the older Epic. Shockblade sits in this sweet spot where it’s not trying too hard but delivers consistently good visuals across every ability.
Been running this in Diamond for most of season 12 and into 13. In lane specifically, the Q particles are easier to track than base skin when you’re poking pre-6. The river Q especially pops against the grey tones of mid lane terrain. Real talk though, if you’re a Qiyana one-trick you probably already own True Damage and the question is whether Shockblade is worth adding to the rotation.
Think it absolutely is. Different vibe entirely. True Damage is flashy and modern, Shockblade is sharp and focused. I swap between them depending on mood. Maybe 60/40 in favor of Shockblade these days.
Should you buy it?
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, clean model, solid recall, 8 chromas if you want variety. No new voice lines but that’s standard Epic pricing. Shop has it permanently so no rush.
Spammed this in Diamond for probably 150 games across two seasons and it hasnt gotten old. The lightning theme stays visually interesting without being distracting, which matters when you’re trying to execute combos in a teamfight and need to actually see what element you’re holding. Skip this if you only play Qiyana casually, but for mains it’s top pick material. Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe Shockblade is the best all-around Qiyana skin if you value gameplay clarity alongside aesthetics. The Obsidian chroma specifically. Trust me on that one.
