Shockblade Skins

All 4 skins in the Shockblade skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Shockblade skin in League of Legends.

Shockblade is one of those skinlines that flew under most people's radar for years. Four skins total, spread across a full decade from 2012 to 2022. Not gonna lie, the lightning-themed ninja aesthetic grabbed me the first time I saw Shockblade Zed back in season 2, and the line aged better than most stuff from that era. Electric purple and blue crackling across abilities, sharp angular armor, the whole "storm assassin" vibe. Small roster but every pick in it actually fits the theme. Thats rare for Riot.

What Makes the Shockblade Line Stand Out

Kinda feels like Riot took one look at the intersection of lightning and bladed combat and said "yeah, we can build something here." The visual signature is obvious the moment you load in: heavy electric arcs, blue-violet particle effects on abilities, and armor designs that lean into a feudal Japanese look but with tech-infused lightning conduits running through the plating. Think Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe if he got struck by lightning and liked it.

The color palette stays tight across all four skins. Deep navy base tones with bright electric blue and purple highlights. Splash arts share that same stormy atmosphere, dark clouds crackling in the background, dramatic poses mid-strike. Whoever art directed this line kept it consistent even across a ten-year gap between the oldest and newest entries.

Compared to something like PROJECT or PsyOps, Shockblade leans way more fantasy than sci-fi. The tech elements are minimal. It's not cybernetic implants or holographic overlays. Just raw elemental lightning channeled through traditional weapons. That distinction matters because it gives the line a cleaner read on the Rift. You see the lightning, you know it's Shockblade. No confusion with Pulsefire or Arclight or any of the other glowy skinlines.

One thing I noticed after spamming these in ranked last season: the VFX clarity is actually solid for competitive play. The lightning particles are bright enough to be satisfying but not so busy that they obscure hitboxes. Could be wrong here but I think the Shockblade skins have some of the best ability readability in the 1350 RP tier. (Random aside: my duo partner literally thought Shockblade Shen's Q was a different ability the first time he saw it, which was hilarious.)

The shared element tying everything together is the crackling electricity on auto attacks and abilities. Each champion channels it differently based on their kit, but the core visual language stays the same. Zed's shadows spark with voltage. Kassadin's Riftwalk leaves an electric afterimage. Shen's spirit blade trails arcs. Qiyana's elements get the full storm treatment. Consistent but not copy-pasted.

Best Shockblade Skins Worth Locking In

Real talk though, Shockblade Kassadin is the standout of the entire line for me. Been running this in Diamond on Kassadin for maybe 40 games since picking it up, and the Riftwalk VFX alone justifies the 1350 RP. The way lightning crackles at the landing zone, the charged-up feel on his W, the nether blade humming with electricity. It transforms Kassadin from "purple void dude" into something that actually looks threatening pre-6. Splash art goes hard too.

Shockblade Shen sits right behind it. Might be overthinking it but the skin makes Shen's kit feel more impactful than it should at the Epic tier. Spirit Blade trailing electric arcs across the lane, the taunt leaving a lightning wake behind him. For a champion who can feel visually flat in teamfights, having those bright particle effects on his engage tools is a real upgrade. Played maybe 15 games of Shen with this skin last month and the recall animation alone is worth it. Clean energy sword summon, no filler.

Shockblade Qiyana is the newest entry, dropped in 2022, and it fits the assassin theme naturally. Qiyana already has that blade-focused kit, so wrapping it in lightning effects works without feeling forced. The element swaps look distinct in each form. Not sure if it's just me but the grass element version with the green-tinted lightning is the best looking of the three. Her ult shockwave with the electric burst reads beautifully in teamfights, especially in the river around dragon pit. Locked this in for a solid two weeks when it came out.

Then there's the OG. Shockblade Zed. Released back in 2012 at 975 RP, making it the only Standard tier skin in the line. It shows its age compared to the newer entries. The particles are simpler, the model is less detailed, but honestly? Still holds up for the price. The shadow clones crackling with electricity is a nice touch even by today's standards. For 975 RP you're getting a solid thematic shift. Not a must-buy if you already own a newer Zed skin, but for collectors or budget-conscious mains, it does the job.

If I had to rank them: Kassadin > Shen > Qiyana > Zed. That said, none of them are bad picks. Small line, high average quality.

The Shockblade Champion Roster

Four champions. Kassadin, Shen, Zed, and Qiyana. Honestly not gonna lie, this might be one of the most thematically coherent small rosters in the game. Every single champion here uses blades or close-range weapons. Every single one benefits from the lightning aesthetic because their kits involve quick strikes and repositioning. No forced picks.

Zed was the first, back in 2012. Makes total sense. Shadow ninja with lightning powers is about as clean a fantasy as you can get. Shen followed as the defensive counterpart, the disciplined warrior channeling controlled electricity versus Zed's chaotic bursts. Kassadin brought the void-mage-turned-storm-warrior angle, which could have felt off-theme but works because his kit is so blink-and-strike oriented. Qiyana rounded it out in 2022 as the elemental assassin, and lightning as an element for her kit is a natural extension.

Who's missing? Been thinking about this since season 12 and honestly, Talon feels like the biggest gap. Blade-focused assassin, parkour over walls, rake throw that could look incredible with lightning trails. Katarina too, spinning daggers crackling with voltage would be sick in teamfights. Maybe Irelia? The blade dancer with lightning-charged blades is almost too obvious. (Sidebar: I've seen concept art floating around Reddit for Shockblade Talon and it looked incredible, no idea if Riot has it on any roadmap.)

The line could realistically grow to 6-8 skins without diluting the theme. Stick to melee carries and assassins, keep the lightning tight, dont branch into mages or ADCs. The moment you put Shockblade on a ranged champion it loses that close-combat electricity fantasy.

Tier and Price Breakdown

Three Epics at 1350 RP each and one Standard at 975 RP. That's it. No Legendaries, no Mythics, no Ultimates. The line lives and dies in the Epic tier, which honestly works fine for what Shockblade is. These skins don't need new voice lines or animated splash arts. The visual overhaul and particle effects at 1350 carry the weight.

Price range is tight: 975 to 1350 RP. Accessible for basically anyone. You could buy the entire Shockblade collection for less than a single Ultimate skin. Not a bad deal if you play multiple champions in the line.

The Epics do the heavy lifting here, no question. Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana all deliver above their price point in my opinion. Zed at 975 RP is the budget option but remember it's from 2012. For a ten-year-old skin at Standard pricing, it holds up. Fair warning, if you're comparing it side by side with the 2022 Qiyana skin, the quality gap is noticeable. Different era of Riot's skin pipeline entirely.

Would a Legendary Shockblade skin elevate the line? Maybe. I think a Shockblade Legendary Zed with new voice lines about harnessing storm power could be incredible. Zed already has the voice acting chops from his base kit. But Riot seems content keeping Shockblade in the Epic bracket, and at that tier, the line delivers. Sometimes you dont need a Legendary anchor to make a skinline work.

Shockblade Skins FAQ

How many Shockblade skins are there?

Four Shockblade skins total as of 2024. Zed was the original back in 2012, then Kassadin and Shen joined the line, and Qiyana came in 2022. Small roster but every skin in it actually fits the theme. Been hoping Riot expands it but no announcements so far that I've seen.

What is the best Shockblade skin?

Shockblade Kassadin, hands down. The Riftwalk lightning VFX and the charged nether blade feel incredible in game. Shen is a close second for making his kit feel more impactful with the electric taunt trail. Played both extensively in ranked and Kassadin just edges it out. Qiyana is solid too, especially the ult shockwave.

Which champions have Shockblade skins?

Kassadin, Shen, Zed, and Qiyana. All four are melee champions with blade-focused kits, which keeps the skinline thematically tight. Zed started the line in 2012. Qiyana was the most recent addition in 2022. Every champion fits the lightning assassin fantasy naturally, no forced picks in the group.

Does Shockblade have Legendary skins?

Nope. The Shockblade line stays in Epic and Standard tiers only. Three skins at 1350 RP and Zed's original at 975 RP. No new voice lines or special recalls beyond what the Epic tier offers. Could be wrong here but I think a Legendary Shockblade Zed would be a guaranteed hit if Riot ever went there.

When did the Shockblade skinline release?

Shockblade Zed launched in 2012 as the first entry. The line then got additions over the following decade with the most recent being Shockblade Qiyana in 2022. Ten year spread between the first and last skin, which is wild. Most skinlines either get batch-released or die after one wave.

Are Shockblade skins worth buying?

If you main any of the four champions, yeah. The three Epic skins at 1350 RP punch above their weight in particle effects and model quality. Zed's 975 RP skin shows its age but still works at the price. Spammed Shockblade Kassadin for a full month in Diamond and never got tired of the VFX. Good value across the board.

Do Shockblade skins have chromas?

The newer Shockblade skins do have chromas available. Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana all got chroma sets when they released. Zed being from 2012 doesn't have any. If you pick up one of the Epic tier Shockblade skins, check the chroma options because some of the alternate color variants change the lightning hue which looks clean.

Will Riot make more Shockblade skins?

No official word from Riot on expanding the line. The 2022 Qiyana addition showed they havent forgotten about it though. Ten year gap between first and last skin means Riot revisits when inspiration hits. Talon and Katarina feel like obvious candidates if the line gets another wave. Maybe just my experience but the community seems to want more Shockblade entries.
