Popstar Ahri

First time I saw Popstar Ahri load into a game was back in season 4, maybe late season 3. My duo partner locked in Ahri mid and I remember thinking the splash looked way too clean for a 975 RP skin. Honestly not gonna lie, the K-pop idol concept before K/DA even existed hits different when you think about it. This was Riot planting the seed years before the whole music skin universe blew up.

What Popstar Ahri actually brings to the table

For a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, Popstar Ahri punches above its weight class. The model swap puts Ahri in a purple and pink idol outfit with thigh-high boots, microphone staff, and styled-up tails. Base voice lines, no new VO. But the VFX got a refresh that most skins at this price point dont get.

The orb on her Q glows with this pinkish-purple energy that reads cleanly in lane. Her W foxfires shimmer with a pop-star sparkle effect. Not groundbreaking stuff, but noticeable. The charm on E keeps a similar color palette, pinkish trail that tracks well against the Rift backdrop. Been running this in Diamond games on my Ahri alt and the ability clarity is solid even in messy teamfights.

Recall animation is where the skin shows personality. She does a little dance routine, full idol performance energy. Short but memorable. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last month and the recall never got old, which says something. Compare that to some 1350 skins where the recall feels forced.

(Random aside: my friend who’s an Ahri one-trick since season 5 still rotates back to Popstar regularly over Spirit Blossom and K/DA. Says it feels “cleaner.” Might be copium but I kinda see it.)

The Popstar line and release context

Released November 25, 2013. Terence ‘Terrylefruit’ Cantal nailed the splash. The idol pose with the spotlight behind her, microphone in hand. Clean composition that still holds up over a decade later.

The Popstar skinline was basically Riot’s first serious attempt at music-themed skins. Pre-Pentakill had the metal angle covered but Popstar went full K-pop before it was mainstream in Western gaming. Kinda feels like Riot was ahead of the curve on that one. The Popstar line eventually led to K/DA which became one of the biggest skin events in League history.

7 chromas total if you want variety. Amethyst deepens the purple for a more regal look, Rose Quartz shifts the whole vibe into soft pink territory which I think reads better in bot lane when you’re running her as APC. The Ahri-versary chroma is the standout though, blue and red split that celebrates her anniversary. Most of the others are fine but those three carry the set.

Should you pick up Popstar Ahri?

Real verdict: this is one of those skins where the price-to-quality ratio is hard to argue with. 975 RP for custom VFX and a solid recall on a champion with 15+ skins. Could be wrong here but I think Popstar sits comfortably in the top half of Ahri’s skin catalog despite being one of her oldest.

If you main Ahri and you’re tired of seeing K/DA and Spirit Blossom every game, Popstar is the pivot. Different energy. Less flashy, more personality. Spammed this in Diamond last Tuesday around 2 AM during a late night session and something about the simpler VFX helped me focus on cs and lane prio instead of getting distracted by particle effects. Placebo? Probably. But I’ll take any edge when climbing.

Skip this if you already own K/DA All Out or Coven and only want one Ahri skin. But at 975 RP, fair price for the package. Worth it for Ahri mains building the collection. The skin aged well and the chromas give it legs for another few seasons easy.
