Galactic Azir

First skin Azir ever got and honestly it set the bar higher than people give it credit for. Galactic Azir dropped alongside the champion release back in September 2014, so this one has been around since day one. Been running this skin on and off since season 5 and theres something about the alien emperor fantasy that just clicks with his kit.

How Galactic Azir actually looks in game

The color shift is the biggest thing. Base Azir runs gold and blue, very Shuriman desert vibes. Galactic Azir swaps that for deep purple and teal with alien-tech patterns across his armor. His soldiers get the same treatment. Teal energy instead of golden sand. Solid change.

Not gonna lie, the new VFX surprised me when I first locked this in back around patch 4.16. His Q sends soldiers forward with this cosmic trail effect, and the W summon animation has a different particle burst. E dash leaves a faint purple streak. The R wall gets the Galactic treatment too, soldiers spawning with that alien glow instead of the standard Shuriman gold. For a 975 RP Standard tier skin these are real changes, not just a texture swap.

The recall is custom too. Azir does this hovering meditation thing with cosmic energy swirling around him. Could be wrong here but I think it’s one of the cleaner recall animations for a skin at this price point. No new voice lines though, Travis Willingham’s base VO stays the same. Voice is unchanged from base. Kinda feels like Riot could have added a voice filter at minimum but for 975 RP I get it.

Playing this skin in ranked, the soldier autos feel visually distinct enough that you can track them in a teamfight without squinting. Had a game last Wednesday where I was poking from behind my Braum in bot lane and the teal soldiers were way easier to spot against the Rift terrain than base gold ones. Small thing but it matters when you’re managing three soldiers during a dragon fight and your jungler is spam pinging.

The Galactic line and release context

Galactic Azir released September 15, 2014. Part of the Galactic skinline which is one of Riot’s smaller thematic sets. Galactic Renekton and Galactic Nasus exist in the same universe. Three Shuriman champs getting the space treatment, I think Riot had a specific vision there.

No chromas for this one. Zero. Skip that section entirely.

975 RP puts it in Standard tier territory. Shop has it, permanent availability. (Random aside: I use the splash as my League client background and nobody has ever commented on it which tells you how under the radar this skin flies.) The Galactic line never really took off the way Dark Star or Cosmic did, but the skins in it are quietly solid. Maybe just my experience but I see fewer Galactic Azir players in Diamond than pretty much any other Azir skin. Seen maybe 4 total this entire season.

Is Galactic Azir worth 975 RP?

Real verdict: for Azir mains who want something different without dropping 1350 or 1820 RP, this is the pick. The VFX changes are meaningful, the recall is custom, and the purple-teal palette reads clean in game. You lose out on new voice lines and the model changes are mostly texture-level, but thats the trade at this price.

If you’re climbing with Azir and want the flashiest option, Elderwood or the Worlds skin probably edge it out. But 975 RP feels fair for what you get. Been daily driving this one again since about two patches ago after getting bored of SKT T1 Azir and I keep coming back. The soldier VFX in late-game teamfights where you ult three people into your backline and your W soldiers are swinging with that cosmic energy, it just hits different. Worth it for mains. Skip if you only play Azir once a month in ARAM.
