Bloodstone is one of those early League skinlines that most players forget exists until someone locks in Blood Lord Vladimir and you hear that voice. The whole line runs on a dark crystal, corrupted gemstone aesthetic - deep reds, purples, jagged mineral textures. Riot put this together between 2011 and 2013, then never touched it again. Seven skins total. Not gonna lie, theres something charming about how raw and unpolished this era of League cosmetics feels compared to the overproduced stuff we get now.

What Makes Bloodstone Different From Other Dark Skinlines
Could be wrong here but I think Bloodstone gets overlooked because it shares visual space with like four other "dark and edgy" lines. Blood Moon, Coven, Nightbringer. All going for that sinister corrupted look. But Bloodstone has a specific thing going for it: the crystalline mineral element. Everything in this line looks like it grew out of volcanic rock. Deep garnet reds, obsidian blacks, purple amethyst highlights.
The splashes from this era have that painterly quality Riot stopped doing around season 5. Less polished, more atmosphere. Blood Lord Vladimir's splash still goes hard. The lighting in that piece, the throne made of crystallized blood - someone at Riot was cooking.
Shared VFX are minimal across the line because most of these are Standard tier skins from 2011-2012. No custom particles on most of them. The color palette does the heavy lifting: if you see deep red crystal textures on a champion, its Bloodstone. Simple as that. Compare this to something like Arcana where every skin gets unique VFX and custom recalls. Different era entirely.
Real talk though, the consistency across seven skins is surprisingly tight for a line that spans two years. Every champion looks like they could exist in the same corrupted crystal dimension. Riot doesnt always nail that - look at how scattered some modern lines feel when they try to cover too many champion archetypes.
Best Bloodstone Skins Worth Your RP
Blood Lord Vladimir carries this entire skinline on his back. Full stop. It's a Legendary at 1820 RP, released October 2012, and for its time it was absolutely top tier. New voice lines, completely new model, custom ability VFX. The voice actor went deep on the aristocratic vampire lord thing. Been spamming Vlad in Diamond since season 9 and I still come back to Blood Lord over newer options.
The Q animation on Blood Lord feels weighty. Pool has that dark crimson swirl. His ult marks enemies with this pulsing red crystal effect. For a 2012 Legendary it holds up better than some 2015 skins. (Random aside: the laugh emote on this skin is genuinely tilting to play against, and I respect that.)
Dark Crystal Ryze is the sleeper pick. Standard tier, 975 RP when it dropped back in August 2012. Purple crystal aesthetic works perfectly on Ryze because his whole kit is about channeling magical energy. The crystal growths on his body look natural on a mage who's literally addicted to arcane power. Played maybe 40 games on this one last season when I was grinding Ryze mid for a week.
Bloodfury Renekton surprised me. 975 RP Standard skin that turns croc boy into this rage-fueled crystal berserker. The red tones match his fury mechanic thematically. Not sure if it's just me but it feels like his animations read slightly angrier with this skin on. Placebo probably. Still looks clean in lane.
Bloodstone Taric is decent if you main him. The gem knight getting literal bloodstones embedded in his armor makes too much sense. Kinda feels like this skin was designed specifically for Taric first and the skinline grew from there.
Blood Knight Hecarim and Bloodstone Lissandra round out the roster. Hecarim's works because spectral horse plus dark crystals is an easy sell. Lissandra fits the ice-crystal-but-make-it-evil vibe perfectly. Neither one blows your mind but both are solid 750 RP pickups if you main either champ.
Champion Roster and Who Actually Fits
Seven champions. Vladimir, Ryze, Taric, Renekton, Fiora, Hecarim, Lissandra. Honestly not gonna lie, some of these fit better than others.
Vladimir is the obvious perfect fit. Blood magic plus blood crystals. No notes. This is basically his canonical alternate universe. Lissandra also makes complete sense - her entire kit is ice and crystal themed anyway, just recolor it red and evil and you're done. Taric, same deal. Gem knight. Bloodstone gems. Easy connection.
Ryze works because of the arcane corruption angle. Dark Crystal Ryze reads as "what if Ryze found a worse scroll to be obsessed with." Thematic fit is strong.
Renekton and Hecarim are the stretch picks. Not bad, just less obvious. Renekton's rage mechanic ties into the "corrupted by dark power" narrative. Hecarim is already undead so making him crystal-infused isnt a huge leap. Both work, neither feel essential.
Nightraven Fiora is the odd one out honestly. The naming convention doesn't even match - every other skin is Blood-something or Bloodstone or Dark Crystal. Nightraven? Feels like it was originally designed as a standalone skin and got lumped into Bloodstone by association. Could be coping but I think she'd fit better in a different line entirely.
Who should Riot add if they ever revisit this? Mordekaiser. Obviously. The iron revenant covered in corrupted crystals growing through his armor. Aatrox too - darkin blade plus bloodstone corruption is free money. Maybe Swain for the dark aristocrat angle that Blood Lord Vlad established. (Sidebar: the fact that Riot hasnt touched this line since 2013 tells you everything about their priorities with legacy skinlines.)
Tier Breakdown and Value Assessment
One Legendary. Six Standards. That's the Bloodstone breakdown. Blood Lord Vladimir at 1820 RP is the crown jewel and honestly the only reason most people even know this skinline exists. The remaining six sit at 750-975 RP each.
No Epics. No Mythics. No Prestige editions. This line predates the entire 1350 RP Epic tier that Riot standardized around 2015. Everything here is either cheap Standard fare or the one big Legendary splash. Price range across the whole line: 750 to 1820 RP.
The Standards are solid budget pickups. You're not getting custom VFX or new voice lines at 750-975 RP. What you get is clean model changes, recolored textures, thematic cohesion. For climbing ranked and wanting your champ to look different without dropping serious RP, these work fine.
Might be overthinking it but I think the lack of Epics actually helps this line age better. Epic skins from 2015-2016 look dated now because their "custom" VFX were minimal. The Bloodstone Standards never promised anything beyond what they deliver. No expectations, no disappointment. Just clean dark crystal models at budget prices.
Total cost to own every Bloodstone skin: roughly 7000 RP if you add them all up. That's less than buying four modern Epic skins. Season 3 pricing hits different in 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions About Bloodstone Skins
How many Bloodstone skins are there?
Seven total. Blood Lord Vladimir, Dark Crystal Ryze, Bloodstone Taric, Bloodfury Renekton, Nightraven Fiora, Blood Knight Hecarim, and Bloodstone Lissandra. All dropped between 2011 and 2013. Riot hasnt added a new one in over a decade so I think this line is done for good.
What is the best Bloodstone skin?
Blood Lord Vladimir. Not even close. It's the only Legendary in the line, comes with new voice lines, completely reworked model, and custom VFX on every ability. Been my go-to Vlad skin for years. 1820 RP and still holds up against newer Legendaries if you ask me.
Which champions have Bloodstone skins?
Vladimir, Ryze, Taric, Renekton, Fiora, Hecarim, and Lissandra. Seven champions total. Vlad and Lissandra fit the theme best in my opinion. Fiora feels like a stretch honestly - her skin naming doesnt even match the rest of the line.
Does Bloodstone have Legendary skins?
One Legendary: Blood Lord Vladimir at 1820 RP. Everything else in the line is Standard tier at 750-975 RP. No Epics, no Mythics, no Prestige editions. The Legendary carries the entire skinline's reputation on its own basically.
When did the Bloodstone skinline release?
First Bloodstone skin dropped in 2011 and the last one came in 2013. The whole line was built across early League seasons, roughly season 1 through season 3. Ancient by current standards. Riot was still figuring out skinline consistency back then.
Are Bloodstone skins worth buying?
Blood Lord Vladimir absolutely yes if you play Vlad. The Standards are decent budget options at 750-975 RP but dont expect custom VFX or new voice lines. Worth it for mains who want something different without spending 1350 RP on a modern Epic. Dark Crystal Ryze is the best value Standard in the set.
Do Bloodstone skins have chromas?
Nope. Zero chromas across the entire line. These skins all released before Riot introduced the chroma system. What you see is what you get. No color variants, no bundles. Just the base skin models from 2011-2013 era League.
Will Riot make more Bloodstone skins?
Probably not. Last Bloodstone skin came in 2013 and Riot has shown zero interest in revisiting it. They have newer dark crystal lines like Crystalis Indomitus covering similar ground. Maybe just my experience but I think Bloodstone is permanently retired at this point.
