Rell Skins

Rell is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells you exactly how Riot feels about her. Four skins total since her 2020 release. Thats it. For a tank support with one of the most unique kits in the game, the cosmetic love has been pretty thin. Been playing Rell on and off since her launch, mostly in Diamond support queue, and every time a new skin drops I get genuinely excited because it might be the last one for a while. The good news: three of her four skins are Epic tier and all three bring something different to the table. Small roster, but no real duds.

How Rell's Skin Collection Has Grown Since 2020

Four skins across five years. Not great numbers. Battle Queen Rell dropped alongside her champion release in December 2020, which is standard Riot procedure for new champs. Then nothing until Star Guardian in 2022. High Noon came in 2023. Grand Reckoning landed in 2025. So we're looking at roughly one skin every 15 months or so.

The tier breakdown is simple. Three Epics at 1350 RP each and one Standard at 975 RP. No Legendary. No Prestige. No Mythic. Kinda feels like Riot doesn't think Rell sells enough to justify the investment, which is a shame because her kit translates well to visual upgrades. The mount form, the dismount crash, the W flip between mounted and armored - there's a lot of animation real estate to work with.

Could be wrong here but I think Rell's low pick rate is the reason. She's historically sat below 3% pick rate in ranked, and Riot follows the money. Champions like Lux and Ezreal get a new skin every six months because people actually buy them. Rell mains just have to wait and hope.

(Random aside: I checked my match history and I've played against a Rell maybe 12 times total this entire season. That tracks with her pick rate.)

The year range from 2020 to 2025 at least shows Riot hasn't completely forgotten her. Five years, four skins. Compare that to someone like Ornn who went years without a second skin. Could be worse. Still hurts though when you main a champion and the skin shelf is this bare.

Best Skins for Rell

With only four options this section is more of a ranking than a curated list. But there's a clear hierarchy here.

Star Guardian Rell sits at number one for me and its not particularly close. The Star Guardian line gives Rell this magical knight aesthetic that fits her armored personality perfectly. Her W transformation between mount and dismount gets the full Star Guardian sparkle treatment. Q sends out this pink-purple beam that actually reads cleaner than base in teamfights. The recall animation has her mount doing this little gallop thing that I still havent gotten tired of after hundreds of games. 1350 RP. Worth every point.

Not gonna lie, the first time I locked in Star Guardian Rell in a ranked game last season, my ADC typed "wait Rell has skins?" in chat. Pain.

High Noon Rell takes second place. The Wild West aesthetic works surprisingly well on a mounted knight champion. Her horse gets this spectral undead look, very Ghost Rider energy. The W crash when she dismounts kicks up dust particles. E tether between her and her partner has this golden lasso vibe. Real talk though, the splash art carries harder than the in-game model on this one. In-game the color palette blends into Summoner's Rift a bit too much during late-game teamfights. Still solid at 1350 RP but Star Guardian edges it out.

Battle Queen Rell is her release skin and it holds up okay. The Battle Queens skinline gave her a royal purple and gold color scheme. Decent VFX on the abilities, nothing that blows your mind. Been running this one occasionally in my ranked games when I want something different from Star Guardian. The mount form looks regal enough. Main issue is it came out before Riot really figured out what makes Rell skins pop visually. It was season 11 and the skin line itself was kind of mid across the board.

Grand Reckoning Rell rounds out the list at Standard tier, 975 RP. For a cheaper skin it does what it needs to do. Model changes, new textures, some adjusted colors on abilities. No new particles or sounds which is expected at this price point. Might be overthinking it but the dark aesthetic actually reads well against the Rift. Not bad for budget players.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Rell

Rell appears in four skinlines: Battle Queens, Star Guardian Season 4, High Noon, and Grand Reckoning. Each pulls her design in a completely different direction which is nice for variety even if the total count is low.

Star Guardian is the best thematic fit. Full stop. Rell's whole identity is the armored protector who literally breaks apart metal to shield allies. The magical girl protector fantasy maps onto that perfectly. Her E is literally a bond with another champion. Star Guardian emphasizes bonds and connections between guardians. The synergy writes itself.

High Noon works better than you'd expect. The mounted aspect of her kit makes the cowboy theme feel natural rather than forced. She's riding a horse already, just make it a ghost horse in a desert setting. Simple concept, clean execution. I think the High Noon line is one of Riot's most consistent skinlines and Rell benefits from that baseline quality.

Battle Queens was fine for a release skin but the skinline itself never really took off. Not sure if its just me but I barely see Battle Queen skins on any champion these days. The royal knight angle overlaps with Rell's base design a bit too much. She's already armored royalty in her lore.

(Sidebar for support mains: Grand Reckoning is relatively new and the dark apocalyptic theme gives Rell an edge she doesnt normally have. Worth checking the splash at least.)

If I could pick one skinline Riot hasnt done yet for Rell, it'd be PROJECT. Cybernetic armor that reforms and breaks apart during her W? The tech is already there from PROJECT: Mordekaiser. Just saying.

Budget vs Premium Picks for Rell

The price spread on Rell is narrow. You're looking at either 975 RP for Grand Reckoning or 1350 RP for any of the three Epics. No Legendary option exists. No Ultimate. The ceiling is 1350.

Best value pick is Star Guardian at 1350. Yes it's the most expensive tier available for Rell but the quality gap between this and the others justifies it. New particles on every ability, distinct recall, clean color palette that pops in-game. Been daily driving this skin since it released in 2022 and it still feels fresh.

If you're on a tight RP budget, Grand Reckoning at 975 does the job. Standard tier means you're getting model and texture changes without the fancy VFX, but honestly for a support champion you're playing in lane and teamfights where nobody is zooming in on your particle effects anyway. Fair price for the package.

The three Epics are all 1350 so there's no price advantage between them. It comes down to aesthetic preference. Star Guardian for the magical knight look. High Noon for the western fantasy. Battle Queen if you want the original release skin vibe. Spammed all three across maybe 50 games last month in Diamond and Star Guardian still wins on visual clarity alone.

Quick note: Rell has no Prestige or Mythic variants so theres no whale tier to chase. What you see is what you get. Keeps it simple for anyone climbing ranked who just wants a clean skin and doesnt want to think about it too hard.
