Ornn Skins

5 skins available

Ornn mains know suffering. Not in lane, because the champion is a rock in most matchups, but in the skin department. Five skins total since 2017 and every single one is Epic tier. No Legendary. No Ultimate. No Prestige. Just five 1350 RP options and a whole lot of waiting between releases. Honestly not gonna lie, for a champion this popular in pro play and ranked, the skin catalog feels thin. But here's the thing: when Riot does give Ornn a skin, they tend to cook. The quality floor is high even if the quantity isnt.

How Ornn's Skin Collection Shaped Up

Ornn launched in August 2017 and didn't get his first skin, Thunder Lord Ornn, until the same patch. Standard release skin stuff. Then the drought hit. We're talking years of nothing. Mains were begging on Reddit, posting those "X days since Ornn's last skin" threads that somehow always hit front page. Been there, upvoted those.

Elderwood Ornn finally dropped in 2020. Three years for a second skin. That's wild even by Riot's standards for unpopular-in-sales champions. But Ornn isn't unpopular. He's a staple in competitive and Diamond+ ranked. Riot just historically treated tanks and supports like afterthoughts in the cosmetics pipeline. (Random aside: I remember when Ornn mains genuinely thought the champion was forgotten by the skin team.)

After Elderwood broke the drought, things picked up. Space Groove Ornn came in 2022, Choo-Choo Ornn in 2024, and Aegis Frame Ornn also landed. Five skins spanning 2017 to 2024. All Epic at 1350 RP. No tier variety whatsoever. Every other champion with this kind of pro presence has at least one Legendary by now. Ornn? Five Epics and prayers.

The tier breakdown tells its own story. Five Epics means five skins with new models, new VFX, new recall animations, but no new voice lines on any of them. Ornn's base VO is strong enough to carry, I think, but a Legendary with new interactions for his passive upgrades would be incredible. Maybe season 15. Could be wrong here but I feel like Riot's saving that for when they need a safe revenue hit from the tank player base.

Still. Five good Epics beats three mediocre skins and one decent Legendary any day. Quality over quantity. That's the Ornn skin experience in a nutshell.

Best Skins for Ornn

Elderwood Ornn. Full stop. This is the skin that proved Riot could make Ornn look majestic without slapping generic armor on him. The model transforms him into this ancient forest guardian with bark-textured armor and glowing amber accents. His Q pillar becomes a massive tree trunk erupting from the ground. The W breathwork gets these leafy particle effects that read beautifully in teamfights. R is the showpiece though. Huge spectral ram covered in vines charging down the lane. Played maybe 150 games on Elderwood in season 12 and the ult still felt impactful every single time.

Thunder Lord Ornn is the OG and still holds up surprisingly well for a 2017 skin. The lightning theme on his abilities gives everything more visual punch than base. Q pillar has crackling electricity. W breath is a storm cloud. R sends a thunder ram that genuinely looks threatening in the fog of war. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attacks feel crispier on this skin too. Placebo probably. The splash art carries hard - Ornn standing in a thunderstorm forging a weapon. Classic fantasy.

Space Groove Ornn caught people off guard. Nobody expected the serious blacksmith god to get a disco-themed skin and actually look good in it. The VFX are colorful, the recall has him vibing at a DJ booth, and his R ram turns into this funky cosmic creature. It's goofy. Works better than it should. Took this into ranked for about 30 games during the Space Groove event and got compliments in all chat twice. Thats rare for a tank skin.

Choo-Choo Ornn is the newest at time of writing. Toy Box skinline, released 2024. Ornn becomes a toy train conductor and his R is a literal toy train. The charm factor is off the charts. His W breathes out steam like a locomotive. Q drops a toy building block pillar. It's cute and well-executed for what it is. Not my personal style for ranked because I want my engage to look threatening, not adorable, but I respect the craft.

Aegis Frame Ornn rounds out the five. Mech-themed, clean design, solid VFX work. It fits the modern Riot aesthetic well. Nothing groundbreaking but nothing bad either. Sits comfortably in the middle of the pack.

Skinlines and Thematic Fit

Five skinlines for five skins: Thunder Lord, Elderwood, Space Groove, Toy Box, and Aegis Frame. No repeats. Ornn gets around thematically even if the volume isn't there.

Elderwood fits Ornn better than any other skinline in the game fits any champion. Might be overthinking it but there's something about the ancient nature spirit angle that aligns perfectly with Ornn's identity as a Freljordian demigod. He's already this timeless craftsman figure in the lore. Making him a forest entity barely changes the core fantasy, just shifts the aesthetic. The skinline was built for champions like him.

Thunder Lord is the safe pick. Lightning god forging weapons in a storm. It's the most lore-adjacent of his skins and probably the easiest sell to anyone who plays Ornn for the fantasy rather than the gameplay. Season 8 I think is when I first saw this skin in my games consistently. (Sidebar for top lane mains: Thunder Lord Ornn walking into lane with that storm cape still goes hard in loading screen.)

Space Groove is the wildcard. Ornn in a disco setting shouldn't work on paper. The champion is grumpy, antisocial, hates company. Putting him at a party is comedy gold and Riot leaned into it. The recall animation alone sold the skin. Him reluctantly grooving at the DJ booth is peak characterization.

Toy Box with Choo-Choo Ornn is the cute angle. Train conductor Ornn. His forge becomes a toy workshop vibe. It works for the same reason Space Groove works: contrast between Ornn's grumpy personality and a lighthearted theme creates comedy. The Aegis Frame line pushes him into mech territory which is fine. Clean. Professional. Not as much personality as the others but solid execution.

Budget vs Premium: Ornn Edition

Here's where it gets simple. Every Ornn skin costs 1350 RP. There is no budget option. There is no premium option. You're paying Epic price for every single skin in his catalog. No 520 RP throwaway, no 975 RP mid-tier, no Legendary. Just 1350 across the board.

Real talk though, this actually makes the decision easier. You're not choosing between tiers. You're choosing between themes at the same price point. My recommendation for someone buying their first Ornn skin in 2024: Elderwood if you want the best overall quality, Thunder Lord if you want classic fantasy, Space Groove if you want personality, Choo-Choo if you want cute.

Best value pick? Kinda feels like it's Thunder Lord purely because it's been around since 2017 and has landed in My Shop and sales more often than the newer ones. If you catch it at 50% off thats 675 RP for a skin that still holds up seven years later. Hard to beat that.

For mains who want the full collection: five skins at 1350 each is 6750 RP before any sales. Not cheap but not catastrophic either. Been playing Ornn on and off since his release and I own three of the five. Elderwood, Thunder Lord, Space Groove. Dont feel the need to complete the set but I rotate between those three depending on mood. Elderwood for tryhard ranked sessions, Space Groove when I'm vibing in normals last Friday around midnight with friends, Thunder Lord when I want to feel like a boss in lane.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Ornn have?

Ornn has 5 skins total as of 2024. All five are Epic tier at 1350 RP. Thunder Lord Ornn was his release skin back in 2017, and the most recent is Choo-Choo Ornn from the Toy Box line. Not a huge collection but every skin in it is solid. No filler picks.

What is the best Ornn skin?

Elderwood Ornn. Not close in my opinion. The nature spirit theme fits his lore perfectly, the VFX are gorgeous on every ability, and the R ram covered in vines is one of the best ult visuals on any tank skin. Been my go-to Ornn skin since it dropped in 2020.

What is the cheapest Ornn skin?

Every Ornn skin costs 1350 RP. There's no budget option. No 520 or 975 tier skins exist for him. Your best bet for saving RP is catching one in My Shop or during a sale event. Thunder Lord shows up in sales most often from what I've seen.

Does Ornn have a Legendary skin?

No. Ornn has zero Legendary skins. All five are Epic. This is a sore spot for mains. A Legendary with new voice lines reacting to his passive item upgrades for teammates would be incredible. Riot hasn't announced anything yet but honestly its overdue. Maybe season 15.

What skinlines is Ornn in?

Ornn appears in five skinlines: Thunder Lord, Elderwood, Space Groove, Toy Box, and Aegis Frame. No repeats. Elderwood fits him the best thematically. Space Groove is the funniest. Thunder Lord is the most lore-adjacent. Good variety across the five.

Does Ornn have chromas?

Some of his skins do have chromas available. Elderwood Ornn and Space Groove Ornn both got chroma sets when they released. If you want variety within a single skin, those two give you the most options. The Obsidian chroma on Elderwood goes especially hard in my ranked games.

When was Ornn's last skin released?

Choo-Choo Ornn dropped in 2024 as part of the Toy Box skinline. Train conductor theme. His R becomes a toy train which is hilarious. Before that was Space Groove in 2022, so the gap between skins has been shrinking. Progress for Ornn mains at least.

Is Ornn worth buying skins for?

If you play him regularly in ranked, absolutely. Ornn is one of those champions who feels better with a skin because his base model is a bit dated. Elderwood alone justifies the 1350 RP. He's always meta-relevant in competitive and high elo so you wont regret the investment if you main tanks.
