Malzahar Skins

13 skins available

Malzahar has 13 skins and I've probably used like 8 of them across ranked seasons since season 5. Not gonna lie, his catalog is weirdly inconsistent. Some skins completely transform the Void Prophet fantasy into something fresh, and others feel like recolors Riot pushed out in 2010 because they needed to fill a patch. Been maining Malzahar on and off for years now, mostly as a mid counterpick when the enemy locks in assassins, and the skin you run actually matters more than you'd think on a champion people call "braindead." The voidlings deserve better than default textures.

Malzahar's Skin Collection Over the Years

Thirteen skins spanning from 2010 to 2025. Thats a solid fifteen-year run for a champion who never really dominated pro play or solo queue popularity charts the way Lux or Yasuo do. Shadow Prince Malzahar dropped first back in 2010, and Fatebreaker Malzahar landed in 2025 as the newest addition. The pace has picked up recently which feels deserved.

The tier breakdown tells you a lot about how Riot views this champion. Six Standard tier skins, six Epic skins at 1350 RP each, and one Mythic in Hextech Malzahar. No Legendary. Let that sink in. Thirteen skins across fifteen years and not a single Legendary with new voice lines or unique animations. Kinda feels like Riot keeps Malzahar in the "reliable seller, low investment" category. Meanwhile Lux has three Legendaries or whatever the count is now.

The early skins from 2010-2012 are rough. Vizier Malzahar, Shadow Prince Malzahar, Djinn Malzahar, Overlord Malzahar. All Standard tier, all basically texture swaps with different color palettes on the robes. They existed before Riot figured out that skins should actually change particles and effects. Could be wrong here but I think most of these got minor touch-ups during the Malzahar VGU back in season 6, which helped them look less like they belonged in a 2009 browser game. Still, they're 520-750 RP tier skins and they play like it.

The real catalog starts around 2016. Snow Day Malzahar, Battle Boss Malzahar, then Hextech in 2018. That three-year stretch gave Malzahar mains actual options. Since then Riot has been fairly consistent dropping an Epic every year or two. Worldbreaker, Beezahar, Debonair, Three Honors, Empyrean, Fatebreaker. All 1350 RP Epics with new particles, recall animations, and model changes. The consistency is nice even if none of them hit Legendary status.

Best Skins for Malzahar

Hextech Malzahar sits at the top and it's not close. Mythic tier, which means you need Gemstones or Mythic Essence to craft it. Can't just buy it in the shop. The hextech crystal aesthetic wraps around Malzahar's kit perfectly. His W voidlings become little crystal constructs, the E space aids looks like spreading hextech energy, and the R suppression beam turns into this clean blue-white laser. Played maybe 150 games with this skin back in season 10 and 11 when I was climbing through Diamond. The visual clarity on his abilities is genuinely better than default. (Random aside: the recall animation where he assembles a hextech cube is lowkey the best recall in the Hextech skinline.)

Battle Boss Malzahar comes second. 1350 RP, Arcade skinline. The 8-bit pixel aesthetic on the voidlings is hilarious and clean at the same time. His Q creates these retro game portals, the E looks like a glitching debuff spreading across the target. Feels like playing a completely different champion visually. Been running this one a lot in normals last season when I dont want to sweat. The splash art goes hard too.

Worldbreaker Malzahar is the sleeper pick. 1350 RP, Mesoamerican theme. The jade and gold color scheme on his robes looks premium, and the voidlings get these stone golem textures that feel heavier than they should. His R beam turns into this ancient energy pillar. Not sure if it's just me but the Q animation on Worldbreaker feels slightly different in timing even though I know it isn't. Placebo effect or whatever. Still good.

Beezahar deserves a mention because it's ridiculous in the best way. Malzahar in a bee costume. The voidlings are literal bees. The E spreads honey. Could be coping but I think joke skins like this actually tilt the enemy team harder than serious ones. Locked this in during a clash tournament last March and our opponents were typing about it in all chat before minions even spawned. Worth 1350 RP for the mental warfare alone.

Debonair Malzahar rounds out the top five. The suited-up gentleman aesthetic works surprisingly well on a Void prophet. Clean white and gold particles on Q and R. The voidlings wear tiny bow ties. Real talk though, it competes directly with Worldbreaker for the "clean serious skin" slot and I think Worldbreaker edges it out on particle quality. Still a solid pick if the suit fantasy appeals to you more than the stone temple vibe.

Skinlines and Themes

Malzahar shows up across a bunch of skinlines but doesn't anchor any of them. Arcade Battle Bosses is probably where he fits best thematically. The villain role suits a champion whose entire kit is about oppression and control. His R literally locks you in place for 2.5 seconds. Perfect boss energy.

The Worldbreaker line gives him that ancient deity feel which maps well onto the Void Prophet fantasy. Hextech is Hextech, always clean, always consistent. Snow Day is the holiday fun option. Might be overthinking it but Snow Day Malzahar with the penguin voidlings feels like it was designed for ARAM more than ranked. Not complaining.

Fatebreaker as the newest skin puts him in a line I havent seen much discussion about. The cosmic-destiny aesthetic is interesting on Malzahar since his base lore already deals with prophecy and seeing the Void's arrival. Empyrean before that went full sci-fi which was a different direction. Neither skinline has become a Malzahar main's default from what I see in my Diamond games. People still run Battle Boss or Hextech most of the time.

Three Honors Malzahar is the honor reward skin. You get it for maintaining Honor Level 5 across a split. Free skin, decent particles. Not something you actively choose over Battle Boss but a nice flex that says "I didn't get chat restricted this season." (Sidebar for anyone grinding honor: the skin is permanent once earned, been sitting in my collection since season 12 I think.)

Budget vs Premium: Getting the Most for Your RP

Here's where Malzahar's catalog actually works in your favor. No Legendary means the most expensive purchasable option is 1350 RP. Every Epic skin in his lineup delivers new particles, new model, new recall. You're not paying Legendary tax for voice lines you'll mute anyway.

Best value pick is Battle Boss at 1350 RP. Complete visual overhaul, unique theme, the pixel voidlings alone are worth the price. If 1350 feels steep, Snow Day Malzahar sits at 975 RP and still brings custom particles and the penguin voidlings. Solid budget option.

The old Standard skins at 520-750 RP are basically chromas with extra steps. Vizier, Shadow Prince, Djinn, Overlord. They change colors and textures but don't touch particles or sounds. Skip these unless you're a collector going for completionist status. Played two games with Overlord Malzahar last Tuesday night and immediately switched back. Just doesnt hit the same after you've used Battle Boss or Worldbreaker.

Hextech Malzahar is technically "free" since you craft it with Mythic Essence, but the opportunity cost is real. If you main Malzahar and play enough to stockpile Mythic Essence, it's the obvious craft. If you play him occasionally as a pocket pick, save that essence for your actual main's Mythic skin. Fair warning, it took me like 8 months of grinding to get enough essence back in 2019.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Malzahar have?

Malzahar has 13 skins total as of 2025. Six Standard tier, six Epic at 1350 RP each, and one Mythic in Hextech Malzahar. Been collecting them since season 5 and the catalog has grown steadily. No Legendary yet which still bugs me honestly. Riot keeps passing him over for the big-budget treatment.

What is the best Malzahar skin?

Hextech Malzahar if you can craft it. The crystal voidlings and clean beam on R look incredible on the Rift. If you want something purchasable, Battle Boss Malzahar at 1350 RP is the move. Pixel voidlings, retro particles, complete visual overhaul. Spammed it for two ranked splits and never got bored.

What is the cheapest Malzahar skin?

Shadow Prince Malzahar and Vizier Malzahar both sit at 520 RP. They're basic texture changes with no new particles though. Standard tier from 2010. Fine if you want something different from default on a budget but dont expect anything fancy. Snow Day at 975 RP is the real budget pick with actual particle changes.

Does Malzahar have a Legendary skin?

No. Thirteen skins and zero Legendaries. Honestly kind of criminal for a champion thats been in the game since 2010. His highest tier is Mythic with Hextech Malzahar. Every purchasable skin caps at Epic 1350 RP. Maybe Riot will give him a Legendary eventually but I'm not holding my breath after fifteen years of waiting.

What skinlines is Malzahar in?

A bunch. Arcade Battle Bosses, Worldbreaker, Hextech, Snow Day, Debonair, Empyrean, Fatebreaker, and Three Honors off the top of my head. Battle Bosses fits him best since his kit is basically designed to be a raid boss in lane. Worldbreaker is the sleeper aesthetic pick though.

Does Malzahar have chromas?

Some of his Epic skins have chromas yeah. Battle Boss, Worldbreaker, and a few others got chroma packs. The exact count varies by skin but you're looking at 6-8 chromas on the ones that have them. Obsidian chroma on Battle Boss goes hard if you want the darker pixel aesthetic. Worth checking each skin's page for the full list.

When was Malzahar's last skin released?

Fatebreaker Malzahar dropped in 2025. Epic tier at 1350 RP. Before that was Empyrean Malzahar. Riot has been pretty consistent giving him a skin every year or two lately which is a nice change from the early days when he'd go multiple seasons without anything new. Keeps the mains fed.

Is Malzahar worth buying skins for?

If you play him regularly in ranked, absolutely. His voidlings change appearance with every skin so the visual difference is noticeable compared to champions where skins only affect the model. One Epic skin transforms the entire lane experience. Grabbed Battle Boss back in season 8 and never looked at default again. Even as a pocket pick, one good skin makes him feel fresh.
