Aurelion Sol

Aurelion Sol Skins

6 skins available

Aurelion Sol has one of the smallest skin catalogs in the game and honestly thats part of what makes each release feel like an event. Six skins total for a champion that's been around since 2016. Not great numbers. But here's the thing: Riot seems to save their best work for ASol drops. Been one-tricking this space dragon on and off since his rework in season 13, and every skin in the collection does something interesting. Some more than others, sure. The Legendary hits different though. If you main Aurelion Sol, you already know what I'm talking about.

How Aurelion Sol's Skin Collection Shaped Up

Six skins across eight years. For context, champions like Lux and Ezreal are sitting on 15+ skins each. ASol gets one every couple of years if he's lucky. The first skin dropped in 2016 with Ashen Lord, same year he launched. Then nothing until Mecha showed up. Long gaps between releases. Riot clearly didn't prioritize him for cosmetics early on, probably because his play rate was always low.

Not gonna lie, the tier breakdown is surprisingly solid for such a small catalog. Four Epics at 1350 RP, one Legendary at 1820, and a Mythic skin that you cant just buy outright. No Standard or budget options exist. Every ASol skin is 1350 RP minimum. That's unusual. Most champions have at least one 975 or 750 RP throwback from their early days.

The rework in patch 13.3 changed everything for his skins too. All those old star-orbit particles got completely redone into the new Q stacking and flight mechanics. Ashen Lord from 2016 and Mecha both got visual updates to match the reworked kit, which I think Riot handled pretty well. Could be wrong here but the VFX team seemed to put real effort into making old skins feel current after the gameplay overhaul.

From 2016 to 2024 the collection grew slowly. Ashen Lord, Mecha, Storm Dragon, Inkshadow, then Porcelain Protector and its Mythic variant. Quality over quantity. Each skin tries something genuinely different with the space dragon fantasy, which I respect more than pumping out twelve recolors.

Best Aurelion Sol Skins Worth Locking In

Porcelain Protector Aurelion Sol. Full stop. The Legendary skin dropped in 2024 and it's the definitive ASol experience right now. New voice lines, completely reworked animations, the whole package. His Q stacks look like porcelain orbs shattering and reforming. The W flight trail leaves these delicate ceramic particle effects behind him. Even his E - the breath attack after the rework - has this white-and-gold stream that reads beautifully in teamfights. Been spamming this in Diamond since it came out and I don't see myself switching back.

(Random aside: the recall animation where he assembles a porcelain constellation might be the best recall in the game. Fight me on that.)

Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol is the runner-up and it's not even close to the others below it. Part of the Dragonmancers line, this one leans into eastern dragon aesthetics. The Q stacks become storm clouds. His ult crashes down like lightning. Kinda feels like this is what ASol would look like if he existed in a wuxia film. For an Epic at 1350 RP its punching way above its tier. Played maybe 80 games with this one before Porcelain came out and it carried my ranked games in season 13.

Ashen Lord sits in third place. Infernal skinline. Released alongside the champion back in March 2016. The fire-and-brimstone theme works surprisingly well on a cosmic dragon. His abilities get this molten orange treatment. Not groundbreaking by 2024 standards but there's a nostalgic charm to it. OG ASol mains know this skin. If you've been playing him since before the rework, Ashen Lord hits different just from the memories attached to it.

Mecha Aurelion Sol transforms the space dragon into a mechanical construct. Cool concept on paper. In practice I think it's the weakest execution in the catalog. The robotic particles on Q feel clunky compared to what Storm Dragon and Porcelain do. Still a fine skin at 1350, just not where I'd spend my RP if I had to pick one. Might be overthinking it but the mech aesthetic clashes with ASol's fluid gameplay post-rework.

Inkshadow Aurelion Sol came out in 2023. Ink-brush aesthetic, part of the Inkshadow skinline. The VFX have this painted-scroll quality where abilities leave brushstroke trails. Subtle but clean. Underrated pick honestly. In my ranked games last split I saw maybe two other people using it. Hidden gem status.

Divine Architect Porcelain is the Mythic variant. Same Porcelain base but with upgraded effects and an exclusive border. You need Mythic Essence for this one, cant just drop RP on it. Looks incredible but the accessibility issue means most players will never own it.

Skinlines and How They Fit the Star Forger

Five different skinlines across six skins. Infernal, Mecha, Dragonmancers, Inkshadow, and Porcelain. Not sure if it's just me but ASol seems to get placed in thematic lines that actually make sense for a cosmic dragon. No joke skins, no pool party nonsense. Every skinline takes him seriously.

Dragonmancers with Storm Dragon is the most natural fit. He's literally a dragon. The eastern mythology angle works perfectly. Porcelain is a close second - the elegance of porcelain art matches his regal personality. These two skinlines understand what Aurelion Sol is about.

Infernal through Ashen Lord was a solid early choice. Fire dragon, demon dragon, whatever you want to call it. Classic fantasy archetype that translates well. Mecha feels like the odd one out. Mechanical dragon is fine for variety but it strips away the mystical element that makes ASol compelling in the first place. Personal take but I think Riot learned from this and the later skins all lean into magical or mythological themes instead.

(Sidebar for ASol mains specifically: the Inkshadow line doesnt get enough credit. The ink-brush VFX on his flight path is genuinely beautiful in motion. Screenshots dont do it justice, you need to see it in-game during a teamfight.)

No Star Guardian. No PROJECT. No Arcade. Real talk though, I'm glad Riot keeps ASol in serious skinlines. The champion has this cosmic gravitas and putting him in a comedy skin would undermine it. Hope they keep that energy going forward.

Budget vs Premium: Where to Spend RP on Aurelion Sol

Here's where ASol's catalog gets tricky. There is no budget option. Lowest price is 1350 RP across four Epic skins. No 975, no 750, nothing cheap. If you want an Aurelion Sol skin you're spending at minimum 1350.

For that price point, Storm Dragon is the best value. No question. The Dragonmancers VFX compete with skins twice the price in other champion catalogs. Lock that in if you're climbing on a budget. Inkshadow at the same 1350 is a strong second choice, especially if the eastern ink aesthetic appeals to you more than storm effects.

Going premium means Porcelain Protector at 1820 RP. Legendary pricing. Worth every RP point for mains. New voice lines, new animations, completely different feel from the Epics. The gap between Storm Dragon at 1350 and Porcelain Protector at 1820 is massive in terms of what you get. That extra 470 RP buys you a fundamentally different experience - not just reskinned particles but a reimagined champion.

Maybe just my experience but I've had games where teammates comment on how good Porcelain looks. Never had that happen with an Epic skin on any champion. The Legendary tax pays for itself in style points alone. Took this into ranked for about 150 games last season and zero regrets. Fair price for the package.

Divine Architect Porcelain is technically the premium option but since it costs Mythic Essence and not RP, its a different conversation entirely. If you have the Essence, sure. Otherwise dont stress about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Aurelion Sol have?

Six skins total as of 2024. Small catalog compared to most champions but the quality is there. Four Epics, one Legendary, one Mythic. No budget skins exist - everything starts at 1350 RP. Riot clearly prioritizes quality drops over frequent releases for ASol, which honestly works in his favor.

What is the best Aurelion Sol skin?

Porcelain Protector. Not even close. The Legendary treatment gives him new voice lines, reworked animations, and porcelain VFX on every ability. Been running this exclusively since it dropped and cant imagine going back. Storm Dragon is the best Epic if you dont want to spend 1820 RP.

What is the cheapest Aurelion Sol skin?

All four Epic skins tie at 1350 RP: Ashen Lord, Mecha, Storm Dragon, and Inkshadow. There's no 975 or 750 RP option for Aurelion Sol. Kinda rough if you're on a tight RP budget. Storm Dragon gives the most bang for that 1350 in my experience.

Does Aurelion Sol have a Legendary skin?

Yes. Porcelain Protector Aurelion Sol is his one Legendary at 1820 RP. New VO, new animations, the full Legendary package. Released in 2024 as part of the Porcelain skinline. Absolutely worth the price if you play him regularly in ranked. S-tier cosmetic.

What skinlines is Aurelion Sol in?

Five skinlines total. Infernal through Ashen Lord, Mecha, Dragonmancers through Storm Dragon, Inkshadow, and Porcelain for both the Legendary and Mythic variants. Dragonmancers and Porcelain fit him best in my opinion. No joke skinlines which I think is the right call for his character.

Does Aurelion Sol have chromas?

Some of his skins have chromas available. Storm Dragon and Inkshadow both got chroma sets. Check the individual skin pages for specific color options and counts. The chromas on Storm Dragon are solid, especially if you want to mix up the color palette without buying a whole new skin.

When was Aurelion Sol's last skin released?

Porcelain Protector and Divine Architect Porcelain both dropped in 2024. Before that, Inkshadow came out in 2023. Two skins in back-to-back years after long drought periods. Feels like Riot finally started giving ASol consistent attention after the season 13 rework boosted his play rate.

Is Aurelion Sol worth buying skins for?

If you main him, absolutely. His abilities are visually dramatic - big cosmic effects, flight trails, the stacking Q orbs. Skins change how all of that reads on the Rift. Porcelain Protector alone justifies the investment. Even the Epics feel premium because Riot puts extra effort into ASol releases. Worth it for mains, skip if you play him once a month.
