Last week I wanted to convert my Fortnite V Bucks to USD and went down this rabbit hole trying to calculate it, only to realize the answer changes depending on which pack you bought them from ($0.0072 to $0.0198 per V-Buck, huge gap). Doesn’t help that Epic reshuffled all the pricing on March 19 with Chapter 7 Season 2 and barely anyone’s converter has been updated since.

My buddy kept asking me stuff like “yo how much is that skin in actual money” and I got sick of doing the division every time. So I threw this Fortnite V-Bucks to USD calculator together. It’s right below, price tables come after.

V-Bucks to Dollar Prices After March 2026

What Epic did in March 2026 is basically what your grocery store does when they keep the cereal box the same price but make it smaller. The $8.99 V-Bucks pack had 1,000 in it, now it has 800, price didn’t change at all. r/FortNiteBR immediately started calling it shrinkflation which, yeah. That’s the word for it.

The little “Exact Amount” top-up went from about a penny per V-Buck to basically two cents, which means that thing everyone does where you’re 50 VB short and you just grab the small pack real quick? That moment of weakness now costs you literally double what it did before.

Players were MAD. Like actually mad, not just Twitter mad. r/FortNiteBR was wall to wall boycott posts. People screenshotting their Crew cancellation confirmations. #BoycottFortnite going around on X. And I won’t sit here and say Epic doesn’t have expenses, servers cost money, devs cost money, sure. But this game has pulled in over $20 billion since 2017. Squeezing another 25% out of V-Bucks buyers? Come on man.

Fortnite V Bucks to USD Math (Do It Yourself)

There isn’t one Fortnite V Bucks to USD conversion rate. It moves based on your pack size.

USD value = V-Bucks x (pack price / pack V-Bucks)

Real example. You want 2,000 V-Bucks. At the $8.99 pack rate: 2,000 x ($8.99 / 800) = $22.48

Same 2,000 V-Bucks at the $89.99 pack rate: 2,000 x ($89.99 / 12,500) = $14.40

That’s eight dollars you either save or waste and the only variable is which pack you clicked on. Blew my mind when I first did this math honestly.

V Bucks to USD: Item Shop Prices in Real Dollars

OK here’s where it gets depressing. I converted a bunch of common Item Shop prices into real money. Used the $8.99 pack since that’s what most people end up buying.

So yeah, you could be paying seventeen actual US dollars for one outfit that does nothing gameplay-wise. I got Celeste for like twelve bucks last Steam sale and that’s an entire award-winning game. Not telling anyone how to spend their money but the comparison is sitting right there.

Battle Pass and Crew V-Bucks Cost in USD

Wasn’t just V-Bucks packs either, all the pass prices shifted around:

• Battle Pass – 1,000 down to 800 VB. Completing it gives you exactly 800 back. Sounds fine until you remember it used to give 1,500 back (1,000 + 500 bonus). That’s $5.62 in value gone every single season
• OG Pass – 1,000 down to 800 VB
• Music Pass – 1,400 down to 1,200 VB
• LEGO Pass – 1,400 down to 1,200 VB
• Battle Bundle – 2,800 down to 2,600 VB
• Fortnite Crew – 1,000 monthly VB drops to 800 starting June 6, 2026. Same $11.99/month

Crew sub holders get screwed the most when you zoom out. 200 less V-Bucks a month, whatever right? Multiply that by 12 though. That’s 2,400 V-Bucks in a year. You could buy a whole $22.99 pack with that. Just gone from your subscription value.

The 10k row is what gets me. $72 if you buy smart. $198 if you use the small packs. A hundred and twenty six dollar gap. How do you look at that and still buy Exact Amount packs. How.

How to Get Cheaper V-Bucks to USD Rates

Number one tip and I’ll keep saying it: if you can afford the $89.99 pack, buy that one. You’re paying $0.0072 per V-Buck instead of $0.01124. That’s 39% less. Yeah $90 up front stings but if you know you’ll buy skins over the next couple months anyway, buying $9 packs repeatedly is literally burning money.

Also and this one is huge: if you buy V-Bucks on PC, iPhone, Android, or through the Epic website you get 20% back as Epic Rewards credit. On the $90 pack that’s $18 back. PlayStation? Xbox? Switch? Nothing. Nada. You just pay more for no reason on console.

Stop using the Exact Amount Pack. I’m begging you. $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks works out to 2.75x the cost of the big pack. Unless you need exactly 50 more V-Bucks RIGHT NOW, just don’t.

And grind out the Battle Pass. Every season. 800 VB back = next season’s pass covered. Won’t make you rich in V-Bucks like the old system did but free is free.

Why V-Bucks Cost More USD in 2026

Epic’s blog post about it was surprisingly direct. Quote: “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot and we’re raising prices to help pay the bills.” Their guy Andre Balta repeated the same thing at GDC 2026. Operating costs, infrastructure, blah blah.

Is running Fortnite expensive? Probably yeah. BR alone is massive, then add LEGO mode, Racing, Festival, Creative, all the crossover events. Tons of servers. But like… they already raised prices in 2023. And this game has made over $20 billion. The “just paying bills” thing hits different when it’s the second price hike in three years.

Why does any of this matter for Fortnite V-Bucks to USD calculations? Because I went and checked like ten converter sites on Google and every single one still uses the old $8.99 per 1,000 rate. If you’ve been trusting those sites, your actual spending has been 20% more than they told you.

V-Bucks to USD Price History (2017-2026)

Since I keep seeing wrong info about V-Bucks pricing history floating around, here’s what actually happened:

That 2020 discount by the way? Not generosity. Epic cut V-Bucks prices on purpose to start a fight with Apple. Apple pulled Fortnite from the App Store, everybody sued everybody. Players got three years of cheaper V-Bucks out of it. Then Epic raised them back up. And then some.

Put the 2017 price next to the 2026 price. $9.99 got you 1,000 V-Bucks back then. $8.99 gets you 800 now. Work out the per-V-Buck cost and it’s gone up 12% in nine years. Even fake money has inflation I guess.

Free V-Bucks (Without Spending USD)

People always ask if there’s a way to get V-Bucks without spending real money and the answer is technically yes but the free methods got hit hard in 2026.

Free pass track has about 200 VB scattered across it and you need to play the whole season to collect them all. The hours-to-V-Bucks ratio is honestly embarrassing but I mean it’s free so whatever.

Paid pass is 800 VB now ($8.99) and completing it earns back… 800 VB. Exactly what you paid. The old system was way better, you’d get 1,500 back and keep 500 profit. That whole era of slowly building up V-Bucks just by playing each season is over.

Save the World went free to play April 16, 2026 and everyone got excited. Then we found out the catch. V-Bucks from daily quests and missions? Only for people who bought the Founder’s pack before March 11. New players who downloaded it for free? They earn something called X-Ray Tickets. Which are stuck in Save the World. You can’t spend them on BR skins or anything useful outside that mode. If you ARE a founder though, you’re pulling 50 to 150 VB a day. That’s 1,500 to 4,500 a month for basically doing some daily missions. Pretty nice, but the window to get in closed.

Random tip: if you see V-Bucks gift cards at a store like Walmart or Target that have been sitting on the rack since before March, buy them. They still give whatever the card says. So a $25 card from January pays out at the old better rate. It’s not a glitch, the cards just honor whatever was printed.

V-Bucks to USD Savings with Epic Rewards

Most people don’t even know about this. When you buy V-Bucks through Epic’s own payment system (that’s PC, mobile, or the website) they give you 20% back as Epic Rewards credit. If you buy on PlayStation or Xbox through their stores, you get nothing.

Combine the $89.99 pack with the 20% cashback and your per-V-Buck price is $0.00576. Nothing beats that right now. And the credit isn’t hard to use either, works for Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, anything on Epic’s store.

Console players reading this are probably annoyed and yeah you should be. Buy V-Bucks through PlayStation or Xbox and you pay full price with zero rewards. You’d think you could just buy on PC and use them on console but nope, they’re locked to whatever platform you purchased on. Been like that forever and I doubt it’ll change.

V-Bucks to USD Scams to Avoid

Quick PSA because I’ve seen friends fall for this stuff. Every time V-Bucks prices go up the scam sites come flooding back. YouTube videos titled “FREE V-BUCKS GENERATOR 2026 WORKING” with millions of views and a sketchy link in bio. Your little brother has probably seen five of these today.

What actually happens when you click those links: they either steal your Epic login, make you fill out fake surveys (the scammer gets paid every time someone completes one), or they install some garbage on your computer. And even if some exploit DID work, Epic’s anti-cheat (Vanguard) catches it and permabans you. Seen it happen to people.

Real free V-Bucks come from Battle Pass, Save the World dailies (Founders), Epic promos, and official Fortnite redeem codes. That’s the full list. Everything else is a trap.

Can You Convert V-Bucks Back to USD?

Nah. Once the money goes in it stays in. Epic won’t refund your V-Bucks balance and you can’t trade them or send them to anyone. There’s a few refund tokens you can use on items you regret buying (the items, not the V-Bucks themselves) and once those tokens are used up that’s it.

Ever bought a skin at 2 AM you didn’t even want that much? Yeah me too. Still stuck with it.

At least they don’t expire. V-Bucks sit in your account forever until you spend them. Small win.

V-Bucks to USD in Other Regions

Everything I listed here is US pricing by the way. Europe uses euros with VAT already included, UK has their own pound prices, and Epic sets different rates for places like Brazil, Turkey, Japan. Prices have shifted around in those regions a few times.

For the Fortnite V Bucks to USD conversion, 1,000 isn’t a pack size anymore. Closest you can get is the 800 VB pack for $8.99. If you really need exactly 1,000 you’d have to buy that plus some Exact Amount packs which runs about $11.24 total.

How much does one V-Buck cost in USD?

Ranges from $0.0072 if you buy the $89.99 pack all the way up to $0.0198 on the tiny Exact Amount top-up. Massive difference depending on pack size.

Did Fortnite V-Bucks prices go up in 2026?

March 19 is when it happened. The dollar amount on each pack didn’t change but they reduced how many V-Bucks are inside. $8.99 used to be 1,000 VB now it’s 800, the $89.99 dropped from 13,500 to 12,500, and so on. Works out to anywhere from 7% to 25% more expensive depending on which pack.

Can I convert V-Bucks back to real money?

Once you buy them they’re stuck in your account. Epic won’t give the money back and there’s no way to send V-Bucks to someone else’s account.

What is the cheapest way to buy V-Bucks?

Grab the $89.99 pack, gives you the lowest per-V-Buck cost at $0.0072. If you buy it through Epic’s own store (not PlayStation/Xbox) you also get 20% credit back on top of that.

How much is the Battle Pass in USD?

800 V-Bucks which lines up perfectly with the $8.99 pack. So about nine bucks.

How many V-Bucks do you get for $10?

There’s no exact $10 pack. The $8.99 one gives 800 VB which is closest. You could add a $0.99 top-up for 50 more and end up with 850 VB at $9.98 total.

How much is 2,800 V-Bucks in dollars?

Before the March update you’d just buy the $22.99 pack and get 2,800. Now that same pack only has 2,400 so you’d need to add an $8.99 pack on top ($31.98 total) and you’d end up with 400 VB more than you needed. Going by the best per-V-Buck rate it’s about $20.16 worth.

How much is 13,500 V-Bucks in USD?

Not a single-pack buy anymore since the biggest one is 12,500 at $89.99. You’d have to grab that plus the $8.99 pack to get 13,300 for a total of $98.98. Still 200 V-Bucks short which would mean more Exact Amount packs. Honestly most people just deal with having leftover.

Do V-Bucks expire?

Nope they just sit there. No timer, no expiration. Use them whenever.

Can I earn V-Bucks for free in 2026?

You can but the options are limited now. Free Battle Pass gives about 200 VB across a whole season. If you own Save the World as a Founder (bought before March 11, 2026) you can earn 50 to 150 VB a day from missions. New free STW players only get X-Ray Tickets though, those are worthless outside of Save the World.

Are V-Bucks prices different on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC?

Dollar amounts are identical on every platform, $8.99 is $8.99 whether you’re on PC or PlayStation. But PC and mobile buyers get 20% cashback through Epic Rewards when they use Epic’s payment system. Console buyers paying the exact same amount get zero back.
