Three Honors Shen

First time I saw Three Honors Shen pop up in the collection tab I had to double take. Not gonna lie, I expected another throwaway honor skin that nobody would actually equip over something like Pulsefire or PsyOps. But this one caught me off guard in a good way. Clean design. Nothing crazy, nothing offensive. Just a solid recolor that actually works on Shen’s silhouette.

What the skin actually changes

So this is a Standard tier honor reward skin, which means you’re getting model and texture changes. Thats it. No new VFX on Q, no updated W shield visuals, no fancy E taunt trail. Voice lines stay base, recall animation is the same one you’ve seen a thousand times. Keith Silverstein’s VO carries over untouched.

The color palette leans into this warm gold and deep blue combination. Shen’s blade gets a nice golden tint that reads well in teamfights, especially when you’re taunting through the backline at Mach speed. The armor plating has these honor-themed accents that give him a ceremonial look. Kinda feels like Shen just got promoted from ninja to general.

Been running this in Diamond for a few weeks now and honestly the model holds up better than some 975 RP skins I own. The gold detailing on the shoulder guards is subtle enough that it doesnt look like a Christmas ornament but visible enough to notice in lane. Simple change – huge impact on the overall feel. Playing this skin, the clarity on E flash engages still reads perfectly which matters more than people think.

The Three Honors line and release context

Three Honors Shen dropped January 23, 2025. Part of the Three Honors skinline which Riot uses for their honor reward system. You know what surprised me? The splash quality. Augusto Quirino and West Studio handled the artwork and they put in the work here. The composition has Shen in this meditative stance with honor symbols radiating outward. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of the better honor splashes they’ve done.

The Three Honors line also includes Malzahar and Akshan. Between the three I think Shen got the cleanest treatment. Zero chromas available which makes sense for an honor reward. Special pricing means you cant buy this with RP. You earn it through the honor system, so shop availability is tied to your behavior score basically. Available if you keep your honor level up.

(Random aside: I have this splash set as my client background and it genuinely looks better than half my purchased skins.)

Should you grind honor for this?

Real verdict: if you main Shen and you’re not toxic in chat, you’re getting this skin for free anyway. No reason to skip it. Last Tuesday I had a game where I ulted our Jinx right before a four man dive bot lane and the gold shimmer on the shield looked clean. Small detail but it made the play feel better.

The Three Honors Shen skin sits in a weird spot. Its free so you cant really complain about value. For a Standard tier skin with no new particles or VO it does what it needs to do. I’ve seen maybe 5 of these total in my ranked games all season which tells me either people dont care about honor rewards or most players cant keep their honor level up. Probably both.

Might be overthinking it but Shen mains specifically should appreciate this one. If you’re climbing with Shen as your peel tank in solo queue, having a skin that doesnt cost RP and still looks respectable is a win. Not the best Shen skin full stop, that title belongs to PsyOps or Pulsefire depending on your taste. But for free? Lock it in and move on. Three Honors Shen earns its spot in the rotation even if it never leaves the bench for most players.
