Shan Hai Scrolls Lillia

First time I saw the Shan Hai Scrolls Lillia splash I think I stared at it for a solid minute. Kevin Glint and West Studio handled the artwork and they absolutely cooked on this one. Lillia looks like she stepped out of a painted scroll, which is the whole point obviously, but theres something about the color palette that just works. Played my first game with it around 3 AM the night it dropped, season 13, and the VFX alone sold me.

What Shan Hai Scrolls actually brings to Lillia

So the big thing here is the VFX overhaul. For 1350 RP you get the full Epic treatment. Her Q has this ink-wash swirl effect that trails behind the outer edge, and honestly it reads cleaner in teamfights than most of her other skins. The passive dream dust gets a scroll-themed particle that floats around enemies. Subtle change but it looks sharp against the Rift, especially in river fights around dragon pit.

Her W slam has ink splatter on impact. Not gonna lie, the ground texture after it lands is one of the better details Riot put into the Shan Hai Scrolls line. E rolls out with a painted trail that fades like wet ink on paper. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox visual actually matches the real hitbox better than base Lillia, which is a gameplay clarity win.

R puts enemies to sleep with scroll-themed particles wrapping around them. Been running this in Diamond for a while and the sleep indicator is easy to track even in a messy 5v5. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for this tier. The recall animation though is where it gets good. Lillia paints on a floating scroll with her staff. Clean.

(Random aside: I use the recall animation to BM after stealing camps from the enemy jungler. Works every time.)

The Shan Hai Scrolls skinline and release context

Shan Hai Scrolls Lillia released June 14, 2023. Middle of season 13. The Shan Hai Scrolls line is one of Riot’s more elegant thematic sets. Chinese mythology meets ink painting aesthetics. Lillia fits naturally into it because her whole deer-fawn design translates perfectly into that scroll art style.

8 chromas total for this skin. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark ink contrast against the scroll white base just pops in game. Amethyst hits a nice purple tone that leans into the mystical vibe harder than the default. Citrine is interesting if you want something warmer. Not sure if it’s just me but Rose Quartz feels a bit too soft for ranked, like it doesnt have enough visual weight. Pearl exists for the completionists I guess.

Is Shan Hai Scrolls Lillia worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for Lillia. Maybe not her absolute best but it sits comfortably in the top three. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX work is clean, the thematic is unique in her skin pool, and the recall animation has personality.

Played maybe 200 games with this across two seasons and I keep coming back to it over Spirit Blossom when I want something less flashy but still polished. If you main Lillia or play her in your jungle rotation, this is worth picking up. The Shan Hai Scrolls aesthetic ages well because it’s not tied to some event gimmick. Just good art direction.

Skip it if you already have Nightbringer and only want one premium Lillia skin. But if you’re building the collection, this one earns its spot. Locked it in last Tuesday for a ranked session and went on a six game win streak in bot side jungle. Coincidence probably. Kinda feels like the VFX just make your Q spacing feel more precise though, that painted edge is crisp. Worth 1350 if you main Lillia, no question.
