Star Guardian Season 3 is where Riot stopped playing it safe with the magical girl formula and started telling an actual story. The Rakan and Xayah corrupted arc, Zoe as this chaotic villain figure, Neeko fitting in as the wholesome newcomer. Not gonna lie, I was skeptical when they announced this wave back in 2019 because Season 1 and 2 already felt complete. But this batch hit different. The darker tone, the fallen guardian concept, the way they tied Rakan and Xayah's lore into the skinline. Six skins total and every single one carries weight. Small roster, high impact.

What Sets Star Guardian Season 3 Apart
Seasons 1 and 2 established the look. Pastel colors, sparkly VFX, the whole Sailor Moon tribute. Season 3 kept that foundation but layered corruption on top. Specifically with Xayah and Rakan. Their skins launch in a corrupted state with dark purples and reds bleeding through the usual Star Guardian palette. Toggle forms let you switch between corrupted and redeemed versions. Thats a first for the skinline and it changed how people think about Star Guardian as a theme.
The visual signature here splits into two camps. Zoe and Neeko carry the classic bright Star Guardian energy. Pinks, greens, starlight particles on every ability. Then Rakan and Xayah sit on the opposite end with these fractured cosmic effects that look genuinely threatening in teamfights. The contrast works. You lock in Star Guardian Xayah bot lane and the corrupted feathers on her Q read completely different from any other Xayah skin.
Color palette leans harder into jewel tones than earlier seasons. Think deep amethyst, emerald, ruby undertones mixed with the traditional Star Guardian golds and whites. The splash arts across this batch are some of the best in the entire line. Whoever directed the art for the Xayah and Rakan duo splash understood the assignment. The composition tells you everything about their story without reading a single word of lore.
Compared to something like Coven or Spirit Blossom, Star Guardian Season 3 actually commits to narrative. Most skinlines are just "here's a theme, slap it on 8 champions." This one has character arcs. Fallen guardians, a trickster antagonist in Zoe, a newcomer finding her place with Neeko. Could be wrong here but I think this is the reason people still talk about these skins five years later. The theme has substance behind the sparkles.
Best Star Guardian Season 3 Skins
Star Guardian Xayah. Legendary tier, 1820 RP, and worth every point. The corrupted and redeemed toggle gives you two skins in one. Corrupted form has these jagged dark feathers on every ability. Her Q throws out shards that look like broken starlight. The recall animation in corrupted form is genuinely sad. Been spamming this in Diamond duo queue with my support main friend and the skin just performs. Clean auto attack animations, distinct ability VFX that dont blend into river fights. Real talk though, the redeemed form is what most people use after the novelty wears off. Brighter, more readable, and the feather particles have this soft glow that looks incredible during late-game teamfights.
Star Guardian Rakan is the companion Legendary. Same toggle mechanic. His W engage in corrupted form has this cracked purple shield effect that I think actually makes it harder for enemies to read the hitbox. (Random aside: got three first bloods in one session because the enemy ADC misjudged the W range with this skin.) The dance animation where he and Xayah interact if both players own the skin is peak Riot attention to detail. 1820 RP and it earns the Legendary price tag.
Star Guardian Zoe at Epic tier might be the sleeper pick. 1350 RP. Her kit already has this playful trickster energy and the Star Guardian theme amplifies it. The paddle star on her Q leaves a trail of corrupted starlight. Her R portal has these little star particles around the edges. Kinda feels like Riot designed the villain role in Season 3 specifically around Zoe's personality. The skin fits so naturally it almost feels like her default should look like this.
Prestige Star Guardian Neeko exists in two versions. The original 2019 Mythic and the 2022 re-release. Both are solid but the 2022 version has slightly updated VFX. Neeko's kit translates well into Star Guardian because her passive disguise mechanic plays into the whole "hidden identity" magical girl trope. The golden Prestige palette on top of Star Guardian is clean. Not the flashiest Mythic skin ever but it works for Neeko mains.
Star Guardian Neeko in base Epic form rounds out the roster. Solid 1350 RP skin. The clone from her passive gets the full Star Guardian treatment which is a nice touch. Her ult in teamfights with the star explosion VFX is one of those moments where you feel the skin's value. Good pick for anyone climbing with Neeko in ranked.
The Champion Roster
Six skins across four champions. Small but deliberate. Every pick makes sense for the story Riot wanted to tell.
Xayah and Rakan were the headliners. The corrupted lovers arc gave Riot an excuse to make dual Legendaries with shared animations and interactions. In my Diamond games I see the paired skins maybe once every 15-20 bot lane matchups. When both players have them equipped the shared recall and dance animations trigger automatically. It's one of those details that makes you appreciate the craft even when you're getting poked out of lane by a Caitlyn.
Zoe as the antagonist was a perfect casting choice. Her chaotic kit and personality already screamed "magical girl villain" and Riot leaned into it. The Star Guardian lore positions her as a corrupted first-generation guardian who went rogue. Fits her gameplay identity of showing up out of nowhere, dropping a bubble, and deleting someone before disappearing. Might be overthinking it but I feel like her E sleep fits the Star Guardian "dream" motif better than any other skin she has.
Neeko gets the newcomer role. Fresh guardian, still learning the ropes. Her bright optimistic personality contrasts with the Xayah and Rakan corruption arc. Two Prestige versions means Riot clearly saw demand here. She's the heart of Season 3's lighter side. Fair warning, if you're a Neeko one-trick you basically need one of these skins. The Star Guardian aesthetic on her kit is too clean to ignore.
Who should join next? I've seen people ask for Star Guardian Senna or Seraphine. Honestly Senna would fit the corrupted guardian angle perfectly given her lore with the Black Mist. Seraphine is almost too obvious. Maybe thats why Riot hasn't done it yet.
Tier Breakdown and Pricing
The split here is interesting. Two Legendaries (Rakan, Xayah) at 1820 RP each. Two Epics (Zoe, Neeko) at 1350 RP. Two Mythic/Prestige versions of Neeko that you cant just buy outright. No Standard tier skins at all. Season 3 skipped the budget options entirely.
The Legendaries carry this wave. Hard. Star Guardian Rakan and Xayah with the dual forms, unique voice lines, shared animations. These set the bar for what a Legendary duo release should look like. Been playing since season 6 and I think the only comparable duo treatment is the Dawnbringer Riven and Nightbringer Yasuo release from 2017, but those didnt have shared interactions.
Price range runs 1350 to 1820 RP for the purchasable skins. The Prestige versions require event tokens or Mythic Essence depending on which version. Not gonna lie, the value proposition here is strong across the board. Even the 1350 RP Epics punch above their weight class. Zoe's skin has VFX quality that rivals some Legendaries from earlier seasons. (Sidebar for anyone budgeting RP: grab Xayah first if you play bot lane, Zoe if you play mid. The Legendaries are better skins but Zoe at 1350 is the best value per RP in Season 3.)
No 975 RP or lower skins in this batch. Riot clearly positioned Season 3 as a premium release. Every skin got the full treatment. Unique particles, custom recalls, thematic sound design. The investment shows.
How many Star Guardian Season 3 skins are there?
Six skins total across four champions. Xayah and Rakan each got Legendaries, Zoe and Neeko got Epics, and Neeko has two Prestige/Mythic variants on top of her base Epic. Small roster compared to later Star Guardian waves but every skin in this batch hits. Quality over quantity situation and I think it worked out. The 2019 release focused on telling one tight story rather than spreading thin across 10 champions.
What is the best Star Guardian Season 3 skin?
Star Guardian Xayah takes it for me. The corrupted and redeemed toggle, the feather VFX overhaul, the voice lines that actually tell a story. Rakan is a close second and honestly if you duo bot lane, buying both is the move. The shared animations and interactions make the pair greater than the sum. Locked in Xayah with this skin for maybe 80 ranked games last season and never got bored of it.
Which champions have Star Guardian Season 3 skins?
Xayah, Rakan, Zoe, and Neeko. Four champions, six skins because Neeko has her base Star Guardian plus two Prestige editions. The roster was built around a story arc: Xayah and Rakan as corrupted fallen guardians, Zoe as the villain pulling strings, and Neeko as the new recruit. Every champion pick serves the narrative which is why the lineup feels intentional even though its small.
Does Star Guardian Season 3 have Legendary skins?
Two Legendaries. Star Guardian Rakan and Star Guardian Xayah, both at 1820 RP. They feature unique voice lines, dual form toggles between corrupted and redeemed states, custom recall animations, and shared duo interactions. These are probably the most ambitious paired Legendary release Riot has done. The toggle mechanic alone gives you basically two skins per purchase. Pretty wild value for 1820 RP each.
When did the Star Guardian Season 3 skinline release?
The main batch dropped in 2019 with Xayah, Rakan, Zoe, and Neeko plus the first Prestige Neeko. The second Prestige Neeko variant came later in 2022 as part of Riot's Mythic content overhaul. So the line spans 2019 to 2022 technically, but the core release was that 2019 summer event. I remember grinding tokens for the original Prestige that summer. Worth it.
Are Star Guardian Season 3 skins worth buying?
Strong yes. Especially the Xayah and Rakan Legendaries if you play bot lane at all. The Epic tier skins for Zoe and Neeko punch above their price point too. Not a single weak entry in the batch. If you're on a budget, Star Guardian Zoe at 1350 RP is probably the best value pick. She gets custom particles, a unique recall, and the villain aesthetic just works on her kit. Hard to go wrong with anything from this wave honestly.
Do Star Guardian Season 3 skins have chromas?
The Epic skins for Zoe and Neeko have chroma options. The Legendaries for Xayah and Rakan do not, which makes sense given they already have the corrupted and redeemed toggle as a form of visual variety. The Prestige Neeko variants are standalone colorways. If you want chroma variety in this line, Zoe's set has some clean options. Neeko's base Star Guardian chromas are decent too but I mostly stick with the default palette.
Will Riot make more Star Guardian Season 3 skins?
Unlikely at this point. Riot moved on to Season 4 in 2022 with a whole new roster and Season 3's story arc wrapped up cleanly. The corrupted guardian plot resolved. Could they revisit these champions with new Star Guardian variants? Maybe, but it would probably fall under a future season rather than expanding Season 3 specifically. The 2022 Prestige Neeko re-release was probably the last addition to this particular wave.
