Lancer Skins

Not gonna lie, the Lancer line caught me off guard when it first dropped. I remember seeing the splash art for Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank back in 2017 and thinking Riot was going full mecha-knight fantasy, like something out of a Gundam series but filtered through League's art style. The whole concept is armored champions redesigned as jousting lancers with heavy plating, energy lances, and this sleek futuristic tournament aesthetic. Small line, only 4 skins total, but the execution hits harder than you'd expect from a set this compact.

Kinda feels like Riot took the medieval knight archetype and ran it through a sci-fi filter. Every Lancer skin shares this core design language: heavy shoulder armor, energy-based lances or jousting weapons, and a color scheme that splits into two factions. You've got the light side (Paragon) and the dark side (Rogue), which gives the line a built-in rivalry that most skinlines dont have.
The VFX across the line lean into particle effects that match the faction color. Paragon Blitzcrank runs white and gold energy trails, while Rogue Blitzcrank mirrors it with dark purple and black. Its this neat duality that makes the skins feel connected even when they're on different champions.
Compared to something like PROJECT or Mecha, the Lancer line is way more contained. PROJECT went wild with like 20+ skins across multiple years. Lancer kept it tight. Four skins, three champions, two years of releases between 2017 and 2018, done. Could be wrong here but I think that restraint actually works in the line's favor. There's no filler picks. Every champion in the set makes sense thematically.
The splash art across all four skins shares a tournament arena backdrop, like these champions are competing in some futuristic jousting league. The lighting is dramatic, lots of motion blur on the lances, sparks flying. The art direction is consistent enough that you could line up all four splashes and they'd read as one panoramic scene. (Random aside: I had the Lancer Zero Hecarim splash as my desktop wallpaper for like three months in season 8.)
Color palette is where the line really defines itself. You're looking at metallic silvers, deep purples, bright golds, and electric blues depending on the faction. No earthy tones, no organic textures. Everything is polished metal and energy effects. Clean. The kind of skin line that looks better on high graphics settings because the metallic reflections actually show up properly.
Best Lancer Skins Worth Your RP
Real talk though, Lancer Zero Hecarim is the crown jewel of this line. Mythic tier, which means you're not just buying it from the shop. You need to craft it through Hextech or get lucky with loot drops. Been playing since season 5 and I've seen maybe 4 or 5 of these in my games total. The rarity alone makes it feel special when someone locks it in during champ select.
What makes Lancer Zero Hecarim work is the full model redesign. Hecarim becomes this dark armored centaur knight with a massive energy lance. The charge animation on his E looks like he's actually jousting, which fits the Lancer theme perfectly. His ult sends out spectral knight riders instead of the usual ghost cavalry. Played against one in a ranked game last season around 2 AM and the ult VFX genuinely startled me. That dark energy wave coming at you in a teamfight hits different when you're half asleep.
Second pick for me is Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank. The dark faction version goes hard with the purple and black color scheme. His hook animation gets this trailing dark energy effect that makes grabs feel more impactful. Not sure if it's just me but the hook actually felt easier to land with this skin for a while. Placebo obviously, but the visual clarity on the grab is legitimately good. At 1350 RP its solid value for Blitzcrank mains who want something edgier than the base skin.
Lancer Paragon Blitzcrank is the light counterpart and honestly its a close third. The white and gold looks clean, very paladin energy. If you're the type who plays Blitzcrank as a protective support rather than a hook fishing machine, Paragon fits that vibe better. The two Blitzcrank skins together create this cool angel-and-demon duo that works great if you and a friend both play Blitz.
Lancer Stratus Wukong rounds out the set. Might be overthinking it but I think Wukong was the weakest thematic fit here. He works fine as an armored fighter, the lance replaces his staff naturally enough, and the blue-white color scheme is sharp. But Wukong's kit is all about cloning and quick combos, not the jousting fantasy the line is built around. Good skin, just not as on-theme as the others. Spammed this in ranked for about two weeks when it dropped and the E dash does look great with the lance-forward animation though.
The Lancer Champion Roster
Three champions. Thats it. Blitzcrank got two skins (Rogue and Paragon), Hecarim got one Mythic, and Wukong got one Epic. Small roster but it makes sense when you think about it.
Blitzcrank as a lancer works because he's already this big metal guy. Slap jousting armor on him and give him a lance arm instead of a regular fist and the silhouette reads immediately. The dual skin approach with Rogue and Paragon was smart. Gives Blitz mains a choice between light and dark without Riot needing to design two completely different champions.
Hecarim is maybe the most obvious pick for a jousting skinline. He's literally a mounted warrior already. The centaur body type is built for the lance-charging aesthetic. Making his the Mythic tier was the right call because he deserved the premium treatment given how well the concept fits. Been maining jungle on and off since season 7 and Hecarim with a lance just makes too much sense.
Wukong was the surprise addition in 2018. His staff-to-lance conversion works mechanically but thematically he's more of a brawler than a jousting knight. Not a bad skin by any stretch. Just feels like Riot picked him because his weapon naturally converts to a lance rather than because the knight fantasy screams Wukong.
Who should get a Lancer skin next? Honestly I'd love to see Lancer Jarvan IV. The guy literally has a lance in his base kit. (Sidebar: how did J4 not make it into the original lineup? That's criminal.) Kled would be another perfect fit since he's already mounted. Rell too, post-rework. Mounted champions with weapons are the obvious candidates and there's plenty Riot hasnt touched.
Tier and Pricing Breakdown
The Lancer line sits at a pretty straightforward price point. Three Epic skins at 1350 RP each and one Mythic skin that you can't buy directly. No Legendaries, no Ultimates, no budget 750 RP options. Every purchasable skin in the line costs the same.
1350 RP is standard Epic pricing and for the Lancer skins you're getting new models, new VFX, and new recall animations. Voice lines stay base across all three Epics. Fair enough. Not gonna lie, I think the Epics slightly overdeliver for 1350. The model work on both Blitzcrank versions is detailed, lots of small armor plates and energy effects that you'd expect from a higher tier.
Lancer Zero Hecarim being Mythic means your only path is Hextech crafting or loot drops. No direct purchase option. This makes it one of the rarer skins in the game. If you're a Hecarim one-trick trying to collect everything, this is probably the hardest one to get. Seen people in my Diamond games flex it specifically because they know how rare it is. The flex value alone might be worth the grind through the Hextech system.
Could be coping but I think a Legendary Lancer skin would have elevated the whole line. Imagine a 1820 RP Lancer Jarvan with new voice lines about tournaments and honor. The line has the visual foundation for it, just never got the premium treatment beyond Mythic.
Frequently Asked Questions About Lancer Skins
How many Lancer skins are there?
4 skins total in the Lancer line. Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank, Lancer Paragon Blitzcrank, Lancer Stratus Wukong, and Lancer Zero Hecarim. Small roster but honestly every pick fits. Riot released them across 2017 and 2018 then moved on. Think of it as a mini-event line rather than an ongoing series.
What is the best Lancer skin?
Lancer Zero Hecarim, not even close. Mythic tier with a full model overhaul that makes Hecarim look like a dark knight charging into battle. The ult VFX alone makes it S-tier. Only problem is you can't buy it directly, gotta get lucky with Hextech crafting. If we're talking purchasable only, Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank takes it.
Which champions have Lancer skins?
Three champions: Blitzcrank (two skins, Rogue and Paragon), Hecarim (Lancer Zero), and Wukong (Lancer Stratus). Blitzcrank got the most love with the dual light-and-dark treatment. All three fit the armored jousting knight fantasy to varying degrees. Hecarim fits best because, well, he's already a mounted warrior.
Does the Lancer skinline have Legendary skins?
No Legendaries in the Lancer line. Three Epics at 1350 RP and one Mythic (Lancer Zero Hecarim). The Mythic is technically rarer than a Legendary since you cant just buy it from the shop. Feels like a missed opportunity though. A Legendary with new voice lines about jousting tournaments would have been perfect for this theme.
When did the Lancer skinline release?
First Lancer skins dropped in 2017 with the Blitzcrank duo and Hecarim. Wukong followed in 2018 with Lancer Stratus. That's a two-year window and then Riot stopped adding to the line. Season 7 and 8 era. Back when the client still felt new and everyone was figuring out runes reforged.
Are Lancer skins worth buying?
At 1350 RP each for the Epics, yeah. Good model work, clean VFX, solid recalls. The Blitzcrank skins are especially worth it if you play support. Wukong's is fine but he has better options now. Lancer Zero Hecarim is worth chasing through Hextech if you main him. Overall the line punches above its weight for the price.
Do Lancer skins have chromas?
The Blitzcrank Lancer skins and Wukong have chroma options. Lancer Zero Hecarim being Mythic tier doesn't get chromas, which tracks for Hextech exclusive skins. If you're grabbing the Blitz skins, check the chromas. Some of the color swaps on Rogue Blitzcrank in particular look clean. The base colors are already strong though so chromas are optional.
Will Riot make more Lancer skins?
Maybe just my experience but I doubt it. The line hasnt gotten a new skin since 2018 and Riot tends to move on from smaller skinlines. Would love to see Lancer Jarvan IV or Lancer Kled but realistically Riot's been focused on bigger event lines like Empyrean and Faerie Court. Never say never but I wouldnt hold my breath on new Lancer releases.
