Heavenscale Skins

All 9 skins in the Heavenscale skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Heavenscale skin in League of Legends.

Heavenscale dropped during Lunar New Year 2024 and I remember loading into my first game with one of these skins thinking Riot finally nailed the celestial dragon aesthetic. Not gonna lie, the whole line feels like someone on the art team watched way too much wuxia cinema and then channeled that energy into League. Gold, jade, and dragon motifs everywhere. The color palette is tight, the VFX are clean, and most of the champion picks actually make sense for the theme. Nine skins total across seven champions, and the quality floor is surprisingly high for a seasonal drop.

What Sets Heavenscale Apart from Other Skinlines

Riot has done the "dragon" thing before. Dragonmancers exist. Dragon World exists. But Heavenscale goes a different direction entirely. Where Dragonmancers lean into that fiery transformative power fantasy, Heavenscale is more refined. Think imperial Chinese dragon mythology meets celestial ascension. The shared visual language across the line is jade-gold armor plating, flowing silk ribbons in the VFX, and these intricate scale patterns woven into every ability particle.

The splash arts alone are worth mentioning. Every single one has this warm amber lighting with cloud layers in the background. Feels cohesive. You line them up next to each other and they genuinely look like chapters from the same story. Thats rare for Riot skinlines honestly, some of them feel like the artists were working in different rooms with different briefs.

Color palette stays consistent too. Gold as the primary, jade green as secondary, with deep crimson accents on ability hits. The recall animations share a dragon motif where every champion interacts with a celestial serpent in some way. Lee Sin gets the most elaborate version obviously since hes the Legendary, but even the Epic tier skins have recalls that feel premium.

Kinda feels like Riot looked at Immortal Journey and said "what if we pushed the Eastern fantasy angle harder but specifically focused on dragons." And it works. The VFX read cleanly in teamfights, the silhouettes stay distinct, and the gold particles dont blend into Summoner's Rift terrain the way some lighter skinlines do. Played against a full Heavenscale comp in ranked around February 2024 and the visual cohesion was actually impressive. Could tell it was coordinated just from the loading screen.

Best Heavenscale Skins Worth Your RP

Heavenscale Lee Sin. Full stop. This is the Legendary that carries the entire line and it earns every bit of that 1820 RP. New VO, completely reworked animations, the Q resonating strike leaves jade dragon trails, and his ult sends targets flying with a full dragon strike impact effect. Been spamming this in Diamond jungle games since it dropped and the auto-attack resets feel crisper than base somehow. Might be placebo. Dont care.

The Divine Heavenscale Lee Sin variant takes the Legendary and pushes it into Mythic territory. White and gold palette swap with more ethereal particles. Could be wrong here but I think the Divine version actually has slightly different sound design on the Q impact. Either way its the prestige treatment done right. If you managed to grab it during the event, you know what I'm talking about.

(Random aside: I spent way too many Mythic Essence on the Divine variant at like 3 AM on a Tuesday and my duo partner roasted me for it the next morning. Zero regrets.)

Heavenscale Ezreal is solid Epic tier work. The Q poke in lane feels satisfying with the jade projectile, and the ult fires a full celestial dragon beam across the map. For 1350 RP its a strong pickup for Ezreal mains who want something different from the Pulsefire or Star Guardian options. The Prestige version adds pearl and gold tones that photograph well in splash but honestly look a bit washed out in-game during late afternoon Rift lighting.

Heavenscale Janna surprised me. Not a champion I associate with this kind of aesthetic but the tornado carrying jade dragon wisps looks gorgeous. Her shield has scale-pattern particles and the ult creates this expanding dragon circle that reads really well in teamfights when you need your team to see the healing zone. Took this into ranked support games for maybe 15 matches straight last spring and it just felt right for the enchanter peel fantasy.

Heavenscale Master Yi rounds out the top picks. Yi skins can be hit or miss but the Alpha Strike leaving dragon afterimages is clean work. The Meditate has jade healing particles that are distinct from base. Good skin, not the best Yi has, but competitive with PROJECT Yi for the top slot depending on your taste.

The Champion Roster and Who Actually Fits

Seven champions across nine skins. Lee Sin, Ezreal, Master Yi, Janna, Diana, Kai'Sa, and Smolder. Not gonna lie, most of these picks make sense for a celestial dragon theme. Lee Sin as the martial artist connecting with dragon energy? Perfect fit. Ezreal as the explorer discovering ancient power? Works. Master Yi channeling Wuju through dragon scales? Natural.

Janna is the surprise pick that works better than expected. Wind magic plus celestial dragons has a nice thematic overlap. The execution carries what could have been a stretch on paper.

Diana fits the aesthetic but feels a bit redundant when she already has Lunar-adjacent skins. Real talk though, the Heavenscale Diana crescent blade with dragon scale edges looks fantastic in splitpush scenarios where you're just farming and watching your weapon glow. Kai'Sa gets the standard "popular champion gets a skin in every line" treatment. It's fine. Not the best Kai'Sa skin, not the worst. The evolve visuals change appropriately with the Heavenscale particles which is all you can really ask for at Epic tier.

Smolder being in this line is interesting since he launched around the same time in early 2024. Baby dragon champion getting a dragon-themed skin on release. Maybe just my experience but the Heavenscale Smolder felt like it was designed alongside the base kit rather than being adapted later. The Q stacking visuals with jade flame look more polished than some launch skins get. (Sidebar for Smolder mains specifically: the passive evolution VFX in Heavenscale are genuinely better than base, which almost never happens for launch skins.)

Who should Riot add next? Honestly Xin Zhao is the obvious miss here. Martial artist, spear user, literally from Ionia in the lore. Could be coping but I feel like he was supposed to be in the line and got cut for timeline reasons. Wukong too. A monkey king in a celestial dragon skinline is so obvious it hurts. And Sett. Sett with dragon-scale fists doing the W true damage grit with jade particles. Come on Riot.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Six Epics at 1350 RP each. One Legendary at 1820 RP. Two Mythics that required event currency or Mythic Essence. The pricing is standard across the board, nothing unusual. What stands out is the quality floor. Even the baseline Epic skins have recall animations, full VFX replacements, and new sound effects that feel above the usual 1350 standard.

The Legendary Lee Sin is the centerpiece and its what justifies the whole line existing. New VO, new animations, new model, the works. Worth 1820 if you play Lee Sin at all. The two Mythic variants (Divine Lee Sin and Prestige Ezreal) are the chase pieces. Prestige Ezreal follows the usual Prestige formula of "gold version of the Epic" which, not sure if it's just me but, always feels slightly lazy compared to what the Mythic Lee Sin variant does with a completely different color story.

Price range runs 1350 to 1820 for what you can actually buy in the shop. The Mythics are event-gated. For a nine-skin line, having only one Legendary might seem light, but the Epics pull their weight here. Been playing since season 4 and I've seen plenty of skinlines where the Epics feel like filler between the Legendary and Prestige chase. Heavenscale doesnt have that problem. Every Epic skin feels like it got proper attention from the VFX team.

If you're on a budget, Heavenscale Janna or Heavenscale Ezreal give you the most bang for 1350. If you main Lee Sin and want to lock in the best version of the champion in your ranked games, the Legendary is a no-brainer. Grinded maybe 40 games with it across two weeks in February 2024 and never once considered swapping back to Muay Thai.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Heavenscale skins are there?

Nine Heavenscale skins total across seven champions. That includes the base Epic versions for Master Yi, Janna, Ezreal, Diana, Kai'Sa, and Smolder, plus the Legendary Lee Sin, the Divine Mythic Lee Sin variant, and Prestige Ezreal. Solid lineup for a single event drop honestly. Most seasonal skinlines cap out around 5-6 so nine feels generous.

What is the best Heavenscale skin?

Heavenscale Lee Sin, the Legendary version. Not even close. New VO, reworked animations, jade dragon VFX on every ability. Been running this in ranked since launch and it still feels premium. The Divine Mythic variant is technically rarer but the base Legendary already delivers everything you need. 1820 RP well spent for mains.

Which champions have Heavenscale skins?

Seven champions: Lee Sin, Ezreal, Master Yi, Janna, Diana, Kai'Sa, and Smolder. Lee Sin gets the most love with both a Legendary and a Mythic variant. Ezreal also has two versions counting his Prestige. The rest got one Epic each. Most of the picks fit the celestial dragon theme naturally.

Does Heavenscale have Legendary skins?

One Legendary: Heavenscale Lee Sin at 1820 RP. Full package with new voice lines, completely new animations, and jade dragon VFX throughout. The line also has two Mythic-tier skins (Divine Lee Sin and Prestige Ezreal) which sit above Legendary in rarity. The Legendary carries the line though, its the one people actually lock in.

When did the Heavenscale skinline release?

Heavenscale dropped in early 2024 alongside the Lunar New Year event. The whole line came out in one batch, which is how Riot handles most seasonal event skinlines now. Released around the same time Smolder hit the Rift as a new champion, so his Heavenscale skin was basically a launch skin.

Are Heavenscale skins worth buying?

Honestly yes, the quality floor is high across the whole line. The Epics at 1350 RP all have full VFX and recall animations that feel above average. Lee Sin Legendary is a must-buy for Lee mains. If you play any of the seven champions regularly in ranked, theres a Heavenscale skin worth picking up. Janna and Ezreal are the best value Epics.

Do Heavenscale skins have chromas?

The Epic tier Heavenscale skins have chroma sets available. Standard Riot approach where you get a handful of color variants per skin. Some were bundled with the event pass, others available for RP individually. The Legendary and Mythic versions dont get chromas, which is normal for those tiers. Check the shop for whats still available.

Will Riot make more Heavenscale skins?

Could be wrong here but I think Heavenscale has a real shot at coming back. The line sold well from what I saw in community reception and it tied into Lunar New Year which is an annual event. Riot brings back popular seasonal lines pretty regularly. Xin Zhao and Wukong are obvious candidates if it returns. No official confirmation yet though, so take it with a grain of salt.
