What Is PAX Jax?

PAX Jax is a unique and nostalgic League of Legends skin released exclusively to attendees of the 2010 Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). It pays tribute to the Cardboard Tube Samurai from the Penny Arcade webcomic—a fitting homage, as the creators of the comic also founded the event.

Visually, it’s a minimalist skin by today’s standards. But that simplicity is part of its charm. Jax swaps his traditional weapon for a cardboard tube, and subtle references like a Pac-Man symbol add retro flair. It’s a badge of honor for those who were part of League’s early days.

How Rare Is PAX Jax?

PAX Jax is exceptionally rare. Riot Games gave it out only during PAX 2010 through single-use skin codes. Many of those codes were never redeemed, and in 2014, Riot permanently disabled all unused codes.

That means the skin is now unobtainable through any in-game system. If you see someone using it today, they’ve either had it since 2010 or purchased an account that had it unlocked long ago.

Can You Still Get PAX Jax?

Not through normal means. PAX Jax can’t be found in:

  • Hextech Crafting

  • Mystery Gifts

  • Loot Boxes

  • Any current in-game store

The only way to get this skin now is to buy a League of Legends account where it was already redeemed. Because of its scarcity and prestige, these accounts can sell for high prices and are considered collectibles in the LoL community.

What About Neo PAX Jax?

In 2023, Riot released Neo PAX Jax as a modernized take on the original. It features new particle effects and a purple-and-yellow color scheme. However, unlike the original, Neo PAX Jax was available through the Mythic Essence shop during limited-time events.

While it offers a stylish update, Neo PAX Jax lacks the exclusivity and legacy that makes the original so prized.

The PAX Skinline – A Collector’s Dream

The PAX skins are among the most legendary and exclusive skins in League of Legends. Tied directly to the Penny Arcade Expo events, they are cultural milestones in the game’s history.

List of PAX Skins:

  • PAX Twisted Fate – Given to the first 20,000 attendees of PAX 2009. Released before League’s full launch, making it the rarest skin ever.

  • PAX Jax – Released at PAX 2010; inspired by Cardboard Tube Samurai.

  • PAX Sivir – Released at PAX 2011; inspired by Tron.

  • Neo PAX Sivir – A 2017 re-release with modern visuals, less rare.

  • Neo PAX Jax – Released in 2023 with updated effects and available via Mythic Essence.

The original PAX skins were one-time event exclusives, while the Neo versions aim to recreate the look for a wider audience—sparking debate over exclusivity vs. accessibility.

Can You Unlock PAX Jax with Hextech or Mystery Gifts?

No. Riot Games disabled all legacy skin codes in 2014. PAX Jax is not part of any crafting system or loot pool. It is completely unavailable via gameplay or in-game purchases.

Neo PAX Jax, while newer, also can’t be crafted. It’s only purchasable using Mythic Essence during specific promotional windows.

Buy a PAX Jax Account

Although PAX Jax is no longer distributed, you can still obtain it by purchasing an existing League of Legends account that already has it unlocked. Our premium account store offers secure access to these rare collector items, complete with full ownership and account details.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or a collector of rare cosmetics, PAX Jax remains a crown jewel in any League of Legends inventory.
